Took a tumble.....

Slipped on a greasy flagstone, instintively put hand out and now have swelling on hand like a golf ball and arm aches like hell :(

Apart from ice, and ibuprofen, any suggestions to ease my aches and pains? Apart from being less clumsy in future

ta chaps

X-ray. Golf ball swelling isn't par for the course. :(

Ta Ed, I'm a tough cookie, it'll be fine although it was a so and so driving it back from its service/MOT today, being a manual

Oh dear :( thanks Andy, bruise coming out, looks like a chupa chup :D will see how it is tomorrow, the thought of sitting in A&E for 2 hours doen't really appeal but may be worth checking

Go see your Doc and he/she'll will make the apprpriate appointment without the need for the A&E. :) At least, mine did.

I took a tumble, rather fell into a hole in a pavement in Cuba, last year. Full 80 kilos mostly on one hand and straight arm. The hand swelled a little all over and it was painful flexing. No localalised swelling though. Arm was a little achy but that passed quite rapidly.

Worth checking it out. :)

Put a film on, go lie down on bed and enjoy, i try to side track my mind from pain, and works for me:) so a film you havnt seen, or one really enjoy would work well.

They were flag stones outside a church, theyd gone slimey from the tree debris. Can't really sue a church? Have this problem at the church I help out at in Leicester and regular scrubbing with bleach usually keeps it at bay :search:

Getting pins and needlles now.....oh er....:conf:

As your injury sounds like the acute type (i.e sudden, sharp, sprain like etc) ice is recommended in the early stages to help with the swelling, which you appeared to have covered.

If there is little swelling then heat may be directly applied via a hot towler to help with blood circulation and to nullify the pain.

Other then that, theres no miracle cure other then resting the injury and let your body deal with the repairs.

Being a little clumsy I've done stuff like this a few times :D

As others have, get some ice on it to take the swelling down, but if the pins and needles continues you should get yourself down A&E for an xray.

Best of luck, hopefully it's just bruised!

Ring NHS direct and talk to someone about it they should be able to refer you to your local out of hours practice where they will usually see you quite quickly (I did this for my legs when I had sudden unexplained painful calf muscles *panicky moment*). I was down the out of hours clinic and having blood tests within 20 minutes - I too don't relish the old A&E wait and was pleasantly surprised by this.
