Auto box upgrade?

Recommended Posts

Been there, got the T shirt before. I use a company called Gloucester Road Gearboxes in Bristol, allways done right by me, evo, scoob, supra etc...

HOWEVER!.......

THey quoted £2700 (ish) for a built tranny. I could import one from the states for £1900, delivered.

I wonder where I went ?!?!?

Lol.. Vortex is the UK distributor for Boostlogic. So, yea.. it will go back to the states! :)

That said, I wouldnt trust a UK tranny builder over the years of experience BL have with Supra specific trannys. I have yet to see a UK company offer the performance and reliability of the BL box, regardless of price.

I use one and Dude is using the same in his 10 sec car. BL have cars running 9's with them. Couldnt reccomend any other tranny more.

what about this one for 7 second passes

Boost Logic TH400 Conversion

The TH400 included in our “DIY” kit is built to the hilt. This transmission has been tested to withstand well over 1000hp and can handle 7 second passes.

The conversion is a 3-speed conversion and no overdrive is available for it. The transmission tunnel does not have to be modified in any way to fit this TH400.

Quaife have nothing to do with auto boxes, they are a gear part and manual race gearbox supplier. Just buy the uprated clutch and band packs and valve body kit from the ststes and get someone in the UK to rebuild your box. (IMHO). The *MECHANICAL* sideof uprating the box is trivial. Gaining some control of how the ECU shifts it is the tricky bit. hence serious US drag cars use a far more basic Powergide or early auto box without the electrickery.

Maybe I should edit that to say "for street performance" :)

Cause you can get one here for 1/2 the money !!!!! :eyebrows:

Dude

Well, the BL box is $1800 direct from the US. Factor in a couple hundred for shipping, etc and we are talking 1k GBP?

Youre telling me youre going to build and offer box cheaper than that?

I think, what Mig was getting at, is that we have a BL box, ready built, in stock, in the UK.... :)

You think! Depends if you want any warranty on BL parts, and if you are paying the duty. Speak to BL direct and see what they tell you..

I was talking about the product, not the cost, if you're selling the same setup here well then you'd be the best option :)

My Box will be very different to the BL one but i'll need to try and break it to see if its gonna work , the BL box in my car is still faultless , if i lived in the states i wouldnt even bother getting another built , the prob lies in paying to have the boxes shipped as they are very heavy , i think i payed about £320 to ship mine out but Kean gets em shipped back cheaper , at the moment the BL box is still the best value for money out there , in the US it must be by far the cheapest but that dont help us in old blighty !!!!!

Dude :littled:

Unfortunatly J youd have to get a BL box thru Vortex and you have to let people earn something !!!!, even if you could phone and get one your pricing is way off , $1800 ++ shipping here ++ core shipped back out to texas ++ duty ++vat .
