Blown Turbo

:(

Can someone please give me some symtoms of blown turbos!?

I was going along, OD off overtaking some cars, funny noise - loss of power!

no smoke tho.... so i though a popped hose....

Pulled over to fix, found nothing.... gave the throttle cable a blip... no turbo whine and now smoke out the rear :(

Idle is very lumpy now too (would this normally be effected? unless blades are siezed or something??? )

HELP

hmmmm does sound like a blown turbo/oil seal - My mate has a scooby, and he had his turbos wound up quite alot, and was running about 17PSi boost, this was great until one day POP!

we were up our "test strip" doing 0-60's when he lost all boost and the biggest ploom of blue smoke ever came from his car!!! When it was all stripped down he had blown the oils seals in his turbo and a bearing had ciezed!! not good!

dont want to sound gloomy, but you may just have blown oil seals and not bearings as well.

he had his reconned, and it wasn't too bad either!! cant rememeber exactly how much but he was up and running again in about 2 weeks!

When I first fitted my boost controller to my car, after a couple of runs at full throtle, I lost power and had a load of black/gret smoke out of the exhaust when the hose for the boost gauge popped off. This also caused a very lumpy idle.

Hopefully your's may be that easy. Although the blue smoke doesn't sound good :(

Hey,

Sounds very much like a loose hose somewhere. Check them all thoroughly when you get a chance. Sometimes it can only take the smallest split. Also remember to check the intercooler for cracks. I doubt this is due to a blown turbo.

Good luck

If you check http://www.turbotechnics.com they give a run down of symptoms to look out for with a blown oil seal.

I've just had both of mine rebuilt (CT12A, slightly different fromthe CT12B) after oil seal going..but the symptoms were different as mine hadn't fully let go (i had smoke on kickdown, and smoke at traffic lights, but it didnt smoke when i revved it at standstill).

As a rough guide my hybrids from Turb Tech were £1300+vat for both, with an owners club discount.

Adam, I know it's a little bit further to go, but have you thought about using Greersport in Ayrshire? The owner is the one that runs the 10 second JUN prepped Skyline at Crail.

See their webby for details.

They do a lot of prep work with Rally cars and high power road cars - seem to know their stuff where Turbo's are concerned.

Here we go again, dare I say this, I can send your turbos to the same chap who builds them for loen, now if there good enough for leon there good enough for anyone, I use him too and his work is excelent, cost is around £850 + vat a pair for fully blown hybrids providing yours are not totaly knackered.

He will also build them to your spec, ie what you want to acheive, bottom end, midrange, top end and so on.

Terry

I await the barrage of comments

Good enough? > not by a long way but a good try though,

im sure if anyone looks hard enough they can find out who it is, just ask loen or mr branners, im sure they will help you.

if you go through leon or anyone else for that matter you will pay their prices, simple. thats how it works.

the price i gave was a price through me, i'll be honest i will earn a little for passing them on but i think you'd be hard pushed to find better and for that quality.

Terry

and before anyone thinks im ripping them off, i would earn maybe £50 on the pair and when thats £500 notes cheaper than say turbo technics before the vat i cant see too many people complaining particularly when i could earn more out of it and no-one would be the wiser.
