As a fellow biker, I'd love to jump in here and defend you, but, er, over the last 17 years....

  • Shattered right wrist
  • Left wrist broken in three places
  • 5 broken ribs (in total)
  • Broken leg
  • Almost lost an eye
  • More scrapes and bruises than I can remember
  • 3 Broken toes

I still can't give it up though... :eyebrows:

Excelent, I sort of remember you going on about dirct access, Glad you did it chap. They are so much fun :D What bike do you have? I have a 57 zx6 ninja (In my profile pics)

At the moment I have a 2002 Fazer 600 in blue. Just to have a bit of fun with and go to work on occasionally. Will work up to a bigger bike one day, but for now I'm happy pootling around the countryside :)

My brother just picked up a blackbird to replace his fireblade so there's no way I'm chasing him around!!

Nice one. Did you find the test hard? How long did it take you from beginning to passing?

It's actually taken me a lot longer than I first anticipated. I took 5 days of training back in February, which included a test, which I failed. That knocked my confidence a little and I gave it a break, and before I realised it was 5 months later.

Roll on to last month, when I had one more day of training to refresh my memory and do another test... which I failed AGAIN!

Both times the failure was on the u-turn in the road maneuver. I almost lost balance and my foot automatically went down, which is an instant fail. First time was fair enough, I just wasn't very good at them. The second time around it was pure nerves as I knew it was what failed me the first time.

This time, no problems. Not a single minor fault, just a nice ride in the rain and got the u-turn nailed.

Apart from the stupid u-turn the test is not hard, especially if you're already a driver or you've had experience on the road with a moped or something.

The test is going to become slightly different in the next few months - they will be doing all the maneuvers in controlled conditions on the test centre premises, followed by a road ride, rather than just the road ride they have now.

I like to think it's made me a better driver too as I'm now MUCH more aware of bikers on the road.
