Benzsupra
Hi, I was wondering how hard it is to change the anti roll bar drop links? I like to have a go at things myself and mine need doing. I can't seem to find a guide or anything for doing them and i only have a standard tool kit so if any specialist tolls are needed i'll have to pass the job on. Has anyone done there own on here and if so could i have a short write up on the procedure? My level of experience goes as far as servicing, plugs, fan belt, all fluids and filters. If the job is way beyond that then i'll get it into a garage. Thanks Ben
bolarbag
Piece of p*ss, although a pair of mole grips and a 10mm(I think) is what you will need as the little allen caps just round off on the first twist! Get yourself some new bolts when you order the droplinks just incase
Benzsupra
Thanks mate, i have tools like that so i'll give it a go i think. I'll have a look through the online manuals for their whereabouts!
bolarbag
I'll have a look through the online manuals for their whereabouts! The drop links!!? No need for manuals, just check where the ARB's are and their attached to the end;) Their front and rear dependent so make sure you take not of which ones go were
Benzsupra
Yeah i see how easy it would be by looking at the diagram, i just needed to know where they were located plus i just like to be extra carefule when going into un-charted territory . Do you know if i have to change both front and back at the same time because it seems to be just the fronts that are faulty.
bolarbag
Well just change the fronts, I changed all 4 on mine as I couldnt salvage my old ones while changing ARB, there was nothing wrong with them though and the car has covered over 50K
merckx
Do you know if i have to change both front and back at the same Nope. There'll be either a hex socket in the stud or some flats behind the rubber boot where you can use a 14mm spanner pushed behind the boot to hold it. http://www.mkiv.com/manual/manualtt/front_stabilizer_bar_replacement/index.html Don't be concerned if the new droplinks aren't the same length as ones on the car as you fit them in pairs (left and right). markybhoy86
done this not so long ago piece of piss, i used a screw driver to jam the wee tab bit from turning, once i had both nuts loose i jacked the hub up so the droplink went slack and slid out- dont know if i was just lucky but mines came off no bother - didnt stop the clunking though still a mystery
Dr_Doom
Out of interest, how much £ are the droplinks?

Benzsupra
Just a thought, is there any way i can check these before changing them? I've come to my own conclusion that it must be these making the noise by reading things on here but if there is a way to be certain before getting new ones i would check it first. SO any procedure i can follow for a little check?
Nic
See service manual here http://www.turbosupras.com/pdfs/JZA80%20TSRM/SA.pdf
bolarbag
Its probably not them unless their visibly worn, give them a tug to find out Yeah that was the price for all 4corners plus vat and delivery and the 4new nuts, I bought them from Steve Manley on the assumption they would be pretty quick - only took him almost 4weeks to send:rolleyes:

Benzsupra
Sorry for the delay Nic i just got back off holiday, hopefully you'll see this... The symptoms are a rattling noise like metal on metal but only on really rough bits of road, if i push the brakes the noise doesn't happen. Handling isn't affected at all. I have jacked the car up and given the links a good pulling about but they don't move in the slightest neither does the bar. It only seems to be coming from the drivers side front wheel too. I occasionally drive a golf and someone left the anti-rattle clips out and the noises it makes fit your description.
Terminator
- didnt stop the clunking though still a mystery Have you checked that your sub frame bolts are tightened to spec? These bolts are a supposed to be checked at every service interval.

I occasionally drive a golf and someone left the anti-rattle clips out and the noises it makes fit your description. I did originally think this because the brakes were changed just before i bought it and it's always done it in the 2 months i've had it. I don't really know how to change brakes or anything but will a garage know weather it's that or not. Is it obvious to see?

If you not sure that this isn't the problem I'd get someone to check for you before you pay out a load of money for drop links and so on. Do you know anyone near you with a supra that knows their stuff? Are you going to the rolling road day at AFR on the 14th?

I have the exact problem, I had mine in the garage and tried all the bars, links even with a long bar and there was no movement in any. Mine sounds like its just on the drivers side as well.
