charlton
Not for me!! My brother is after his first car and would like to spend around £500 buying one. Because it's his first car it cant be modded in anyway and cant be bigger than a 1.1 - ideally a Fiesta/Corsa etc Anyone within reasonable travelling distance from Guildford selling or thinking of selling anything similar? michael
how about kranz's ax diesel for sale on the r plate? I think I'd be a lot happier if a member of my family was in a safer car for their first few months of real road experience, the AX may well be economical but hit something or get hit and you find out where all the weight saving comes from. Stick with the usual suspects, Fiesta, Corsa etc - I'm not suggesting they are NCAP 5* cars by a long stretch but they are solid and generally cheap to run as well as being in plentiful supply. Also easy to work on yourself so there is scope or some learning / saving there too.

Valid point which I agree with, parts are also cheaper to repair with the usual suspects should they go wrong. He's been riding for a year on a moped so he has the experience on the road and the car has to be safer than the moped!!

Kranz
Have you tried Swiftcover for insurance? Put him down as a named driver and an old person as the owner, have the car registered by the old person & of course they have to drive it more than your bro Edit - Seems like they won't insure young lads, only girls! If you put Mr in the quote for a 2nd driver aged 17 it says they can't insure.... but if you put Ms it works!! And for an AX on TPFT its £1127.

Guest Angry Koala
My girlfriend is selling her R reg (1997) Seat Arosa (basically the VW Lupo rebadged) 1.0. She's owned it 6 years, it's used daily and we've had no trouble with it except the osr wheel arch rusting which was a problem on the early Arosas. This has been treated, filled and painted and whilst not an amazing job by me will prevent it starting again for a good while. Cheap insurance, cheapish parts, Sony CD player with suprisingly good sound quality which will stay. Doesn't have electric windows or central locking but at his age it's one less expensive thing to go wrong! Had new discs and pads up front and new shoes on the rear in the last 12 months (shoes were done last week). Regularly serviced, decent life left in all 4 tyres (2 fronts are almost new), MOT and tax on it. I'm near Cardiff but happy to meet halfway (Reading way any good?) if he was seriously considering buying. It's being advertised next week at £600 but I could do something on the price for a quick sale to someone who has saved up hard for their first car.... (I remember what it was like saving the money for mine!). Only reason for selling is that my girlfriend has now saved up enough to put with the proceeds from this one to buy a nearly new car for herself. I'll get it cleaned up and get you some pics by the weekend. I have an interview on Friday so won't have time to clean it properly and take pics before then as I really need to spend the next 2 evenings preparing. (Had all this planned for Saturday anyway so we could advertise it next week). That ok for you mate?
