fizzle
if you were to fully decat, add induction kit, uprated sparks, etc on an n/a would this be classed as a basic performance upgrade? (hence BPU n/a)
Gaz6002
No.
fizzle
why not? as it clearly is a basic performance upgrade. although obviously without the boost control bits...
Gaz6002
Surprisingly you'd need a TT engine first, that would be your "performance" bit, then you'd need to decat, fuel pump, restrictor ring, induc(k)tion kit etc for the "upgrade" bit. What are you left with?
marc_p
When I first saw the thread title i thought 'another load of b0ll0cks' but you have a very valid point there.
fizzle
fair enough, just wondered why. As the modifactions would be basic, you gain performance, and the parts would be upgraded... so technically you have performed basic performance upgrades.... No, you were right the first time round. BPU is a phrase coined by some guy in the USA to sell a kit for upgrading a TT Supra. The kit came about because of the huge gains achieveable for relatively small outlay, which just isn't the case with an n/a.

Gaz6002
Right that's it, I'm going to ask the mods to change the BPU FAQ page immediately. My car is now DBFB - dirty, black, fast and beautiful. Plucking letters out of thin air doesn't have the same effect, does it?
fizzle
i wasnt trying to start an arguement, was just asking, i dont tell people i drive a bpu just thought it could of been a general term! fair enough if its a trademarked kit/proceedure... but surely you can see the point i was making its not just picking random letters or words... TRD DAN
sweet , i have a dbfb too lol
Gaz6002
but surely you can see the point i was making its not just picking random letters or words... Nope - I can't to be honest. You're only decatting the car at the end of the day, not boosting performance by any great amount. By your reasoning BPU could consist of just a catback exhaust on an TT because the gains are about the same as doing what you suggest on an N/A. It's much harder, and a lot less basic, to get an N/A to make any significant power. You'll at least have to change the manifold etc.
fizzle
as i said fair enough, maybe i should smoke less weed wouldnt be asking myself these questions! new to cars so not at all tech minded, u dont learn if u dont ask!!
