Sorry mate but that looks like a load of bollocks. Sponsored by Adrian Flux (wonder if any other insurance companies recognise this 'qualification'?) and has the quote:

"Now available in-store at Halfords"

oh yeh

didn't see that mate. cheers for pointing that out

but hey, it'll still help you from totalling your ride though lol

Im with tesco and my quote for renewal was £1400 with declared mods, after reading this i thought id give sky a call, they quoted me 1550!?!? But.. when he quoted me he said that they will insure the car for what its worth realistically but tescos will only insure me book value!

I checked with tesco and asked them this and they guy told me if i had an accident and wrote my sup off i would get 8k!! I then said even though ive declared my modifications and ive had to pay a higher premium because of this, are you sure its only 8k he replyed "yes sir we only cover you for the book value!"

Well after this sky will be getting my buisness for when i have to renew, and i would check with your insurers how much they pay out as i would be extremely p****d if tesco only paid me 8k

Thankyou guys for sorting this out

James

Please dont think I'm in anyway implying Sky would be the same but my mate had a bit of a let down when his broker told him the same thing.

This was a few years back now but he had an Escort cabby and spent thousands on it. Paint job, leather, alloys, turbo'd, that expensive material roof(the name escapes me), etc etc. He declared them to his Insurance broker and paid an additional £500 to cover the mods. His car was then stolen and when found totally stripped of all said mods. When trying to claim he was well and truly shafted! To cut a very lond story short he was conned by the broker and the underwriter refused to cover his mods. In short, he got book price back (£900) for a car that owed him £1000's. He tried all the usual routes to complain, ombudsman etc but to no avail.

Again, I'm not saying Sky would be the same but worth a thought. I guess the only way for sure you'll know if the mods a realistically insured is if you were unlucky enough to have you motor robbed! Let's hope nobody gets to find out.

Sky offered me an agreed value policy for a small extra fee. I was told this was to be supported by photo and documentary evidence. As my car is an every-day car and not a super-pretty one I turned down the option. It may be worth considering it if you have a tasty looking car.

It does amaze me that premiums differ so much. Remember that Privilege, Direct Line and Tesco are all the same insurance company, part of Royal Bank of Scotland. I also tried Tesco and was told they wouldn't touch a J-Spec, modded or not!

declaring mods it is a lot different to an assured value. If they said it was an assured value and he had that in writing then how could he have lost out? Thats a real shame. Insurance is a funny thing.

I just rang Sky, they seemed extremely keen to help until I said it had Nitrous fitted, they also said that they only cater for cars with a value of upto £15000. Adrain Flux are the only people I can get insured with. They are still very reasonable for their price.

Oh well, we'll have to see what happens at the next renewal date.

Yup, somewhere miles back in one of these threads I mentioned the same thing about the 15k. Interesting that Adrian Flux will cover you and not me, it does seem to be totally random!!

I have a specific nitrous policy which last year would have paid the value of the car plus the value of any mods damaged to which we have receipts, this year i have altered slightly to fixed mileage and am going for guaranteed value to be sure. The policy is underwrited by Equity Red Star (a lloyds co).

Just wanted to say thanks to Mawby, Jae at Sky and whoever else was involved in organizing the club insurance scheme.

I'm 28, live in London(eek!), full no claims, SP30 from Oct '02

I'm defecting from Bell Direct whos best quote for my renewal this year was £1212.90 and that was fully comp, a limited milage policy (4,000), Social & Domestic only, NO MODIFICATIONS, £350 excess.

Jae came up with £1041 Fully comp Social & Domestic and Commuting! Unlimited milage, declared "future" modifications of BPU and aftermarket alloys, £450 excess.

Good enough that i saved almost £200 but the fact i can use the car for work if i want is cool, and Bell wanted even more dosh for Modifications so who knows how much more i've saved!

Once again cheers guy's, happy motoring!!!

:D

RESULT! Just renewed with Sky, £421 Fully Comp :woot:

And its the correct model car unlike the muppets at elephant.

Faye, I can't understand why you end up having to pay so much each year, unless its your tender age :innocent:

Not doing to bad this year, saved £600!!! :D

Just a quick thanks to Mawby for arranging this :respekt:

Just insured with Sky, agreed value (£15k) and all mods declared for virtually the same price as Elephant with market value and no mods.

Jae knows what he's talking about when it comes to Supras, such a refreshing change ;)

Result, I'd call it :D
