Scooter
Situation: TT for sale, direct from Japan (with no spoiler), importer / dealer (in his ultimate wisdom) has put on a very 'Rice' fast'n'furious Toca touring car type wing. Me: Interested, especially if standard spoiler fitted (no problem he say) Problem / question: The four holes made for the rice spoiler will need to be filled in the boot. Is there likely to be any problems down the line with cracking etc of the filler (presumably) used for such a repair. Any advice / opinions Cheers in advance PS anyone know if insurance would be affected adversely by this type of spoiler (it's kind of growing on me, especially if the hole repair thing is dubious)
Mark Ayling
I wouldn't have thought holes like that would be filled with "filler", they should be either soldered or welded... If they're done with P38 or something ( ) then yes, you may well have problems later on with it cracking/splitting. Someone more knowledgable will be along soon I'm sure...! Digsy
Depends how much the material around the holes flexes. Last time I cleaned my car I noticed that the "Chipsaway" repair job on my front bumper moulding has started to crack. Probably because of the flexure in that plastic part. That was a 1" diameter hole backed with metal mesh attached with cyanoacrylate (superglue), filled with a plastic weld material, with body filler over the top. The filler has cracked away from the bumper around half of the circumference of the hole. Looks like he'll be coming back to re-do it under warranty! I used a lot of body filler in metal areas on my first car (Metro) and none of it ever cracked.
