Also, the engine runs out of puff after 5000revs, and although I have plenty of fun torque and usable power, I'd like to improve the intake side as I reckon thats letting the engine down. Still deciding whether or not to explore this, but I have a few ideas......

 

I have a larger custom made intake on my 1UZ VVTi, but the bottleneck for that is still the pokey little MAF sensor conduit. If you go Syvecs you can also ditch the MAF bottleneck restriction and have MAP via an unrestricted intake.

You don't need to go Syvecs to do that, ECU master DET3 or even the most basic of the MAPECU range piggy back would make that possible for a lot less money. Its a very common mod used by the BMW modders for MAF based engines. Take a look at the ECU master website at the DET3, there's a great forum too where you may even find someone has already done this for a 1UZ. Its something I intend to do if I ever get any further with my 1UZ.
