Differnces between AFR Sensor and the Lambda Sensor

Hi everyone, can someone please shed some light on the following. I have tried several searches but have had no luck.

I was going to purchase an EGT Guage aand sensor from MVP. On speaking to Dusty he advised me that EGT are a waste of time and they only tell you when it is to late, hence you already wrecked your engine. This together with other posts stating that the tips of the sensors can melt off and wreck the turbos. I have decided to steer away from the EGT Guage

I have now decided on a AEM WB02 Kit, MVP do these at $377, however they provide 2 kits both at the same price that both measure the AFR. The differnce in the kits is that one kit uses an AFR Sensor and the other kit uses a Lambda Sensor.

What is the differnce if any and if there is a differnce, which is best suited for a 1994 J-Spec TT with no cats. Also with regards to fitting, you need to have an 02 bung in the 2nd cat replacement pipe dont you.

Thanks

So would this one Vaughany is looking at be more suitable for use with E-01/E-manage display and data logging than the one Simon B bought and wasn't happy with?

They both have an output that's not linear, so still not great for displaying on the E01. It's no problem logging it through the Emanage to a laptop though, with this one or the one I have without a display.

Thanks Simon.

I'd prefer one that can display realtime AFR on the e-01 if possible. Do you know of one that can do that?

According to their website, the FJO one can be setup to output a linear signal using their software. Not sure which bits you need to buy to get this feature though - the website seems to say that the kits come with the software now, but looking on MVPs site there are loads of different variants that don't marry up to the FJO site.

The FJO website is here
