Tigger
Yesterday I thought I would be a helpful person to one of my colleges, She wanted to use the heavy duty stapler and it was jammed so I offered to un jam it. I got it un jammed and working, It then jammed again and as I pressed the release button that should just drop the jammed staple from it, the entire barrel of the stapler shot out and hit me in the eye. My eye is OK, was a bit red and swollen, but this has gone down now, I’m just suffering with pains around the area. I have been advised to go to A&E or my GP, but I really think it’s a waste of time. Should I go? As the first aider at work has advised this?
michael
"I wasn't given suitable training on the stapler and shot myself in the eye. I was awarded £8000 for being a bit silly, now they have removed all staplers from the office so this can't happen again" Go to the doctors in work time, they probably won't do anything and it will be a waste of time but surely it's better than being at work? Lesson to learn: Don't be helpful.
Gaz6002
Don't go to your GP, you'll just sit there for 10 mins while he/she lectures you on how you should be better at stapling then send you away with a prescription for morphine. I'd call NHS direct if I were you but I don't even know if that still exists.

Supragal
I would go on work time just to be sure. Of all the things that aren't work risking it's your eyes.

Do you think I should have a lie down?

Do you think I should have a lie down? What did the first aid people at work say? I'm going to give blood in 10 minutes so if you want to mop yours up and pop it in an old drinks bottle I'll give them that and save myself the trouble. I could soak it up with a few old paper towels, stick them in a box and post it to you? Can you arrange to have those blood vans visit? I suspect there'd be some interest round here with all the businesses.
michael
I thought I'd ask on here first. You did the right thing sir. I could soak it up with a few old paper towels, stick them in a box and post it to you? Can you arrange to have those blood vans visit? I suspect there'd be some interest round here with all the businesses. I think the soaking up thing could work, they always say they need more so I'm sure they won't mind if it arrives in a box through the post. Having said that if it's anything like the other stuff I have sent here it probably won't arrive. Pikey postman. The blood van comes here, I think you just call them up, they check for interest and if there are enough keen people they come every few months and you can donate on alternate visits. Pixelfill
You should probably go to A&E, if this gets worse, or heaven forbid you lose any vision, you will not be able to claim anything from your company if they advised you to go to A&E and you ignored it. I'm not trying to sound mercenary, but worst case scenario if you are unable to work, you will need a source of income. I'm sure they'll just send you away with a slice of cucumber and a chupa-chup lolly, but better to be safe than sorry. Mike
tbourner
NHS direct are just triage nurses, they don't really know that much at all, and whatever you put down as symptoms on the website they tell you to phone 999 immediately.
