gaz1
I would take a fresh baguette or ciabatta to start with, then I would chop several cloves of garlic very fine with some salt, add fresh chopped parsley, black pepper and a little lemon zest, then mix with softened unsalted butter, cut the bread almost all the way through from top to bottom all the way along the length, 1 inch or so apart, stuff with the garlic butter and close the gap up again Bake in a hot oven until golden, very nice You could make a very thin pizza base with bread dough bake this in a hot oven, just before it is ready brush with plenty of good olive oil and chopped garlic mixed with chopped fresh oregano and back in the oven until golden, very nice why not just use salted butter and then not add salt to the chopped cloves:D i should have been a chef:innocent:
tooquicktostop
why not just use salted butter and then not add salt to the chopped cloves:D i should have been a chef:innocent: Salted butter is made in a slightly different way and contains more 'whey', it produces a lot more liquid content when heated and is not so good for cooking (great for speading), chopping the garlic with a little salt which acts as an abrasive agent as well as drawing out the flavour enhances the taste, so you are the second fail today on this thread ;)

caseys
Gaz, How hot does your exhaust get? I always wondered about cooking things on a backbox, for that petrol/chargrilled flavour. Would be a good excuse for going out for a spirited drive before dinner too. Or just buy some Pizza Express garlic dough balls, they're so good I'm sure they've laced with crack or something.. Gaz6002
so............................... come on how did tea go? did you burn the bread or are you all sitting reaking of garlic? we just gotta know;) Is went absolutely brillliantly thanks in no small part to this forum, and in particular tooquicktostop. I used the pizza base idea and brushed it with olive oil infused with oregano and garlic. I baked the base for a short time in a hot oven until it was almost there, then brushed over the rest of the ingredients and put back in until the bread began to turn brown. I then let it settle for around 5 mins so the oil sank into the bread. It went down extremely well, and I'll be doing it again! The bread even tasted good when it was cold, which IMO is the measure of good garlic bread (or so I decided last night). It complimented the tomato and chorizo sauce in the pasta very nicely (that had a little bit of garlic) so all went according to plan. And no, I don't even have garlic breath today. Very pleased

Supragal
Oh I got it alright, and just like the majority, I didn't find it funny. So c'mon then, why did you find it funny? - Someone asked about how to make great garlic bread - Someone else replied with a very indepth, clear, great way of doing this - You come along and say "I just buy the £1.50 stuff from the supermarket" which will in no way taste/look/smell/generally be anywhere near as good as the above mentioned Therefore, garlic bread fail. I didn't realise there had been a poll on it to determine if the majority found it funny or not. Besides I'm not a comedian and my point in being here isn't to make people laugh, and if want to make a perfectly acceptable comment then I will. Sorry if you are over sensitive about your precious generic and lets face it not very nice garlic bread.

Seeing how they fly of the shelves at supermarkets, it is probably the most popular consumed 'version' of garlic bread. Therefore, garlic bread fail. For being a majority? Yeah ok then I didn't realise there had been a poll on it to determine if the majority found it funny or not. Besides I'm not a comedian and my point in being here isn't to make people laugh, and if want to make a perfectly acceptable comment then I will. There was a poll? I Asked why you thought it was funny, you have missed my question. Sorry if you are over sensitive about your precious generic and lets face it not very nice garlic bread. So you should be. Ill forgive you thou.

And you said that the majority didn't find it funny, hence me asking if there had been a poll... else how would you know? It sells because it's not actual poison and easy to do. But lets face it, it tastes like weakly garlic'd margarine on chewy bread
