Pabs
I've said this before, but I think a car should be taxed on the emissions IT produces - not a brand new one out of the factory, not a figure plucked from thin air - but the ACTUAL emissions from that exact car. Then, if you decat or whatever, you produce more emissions and pay for it in tax. If you run a car in good condition, and look after it, you are rewarded for it by paying less tax. Those damn cars on the motorway producing it's own fog behind it will be forced to maintain and look after their vehicle. Anyway - I'm saying no more. It's good that us pre 2001 owners pay the lower rate, but I'm sure it won't be that way for ever.

keener
Just picked the TT up from getting cambelt and bits done and asked the MOT guys what the score was with emissions. They said that the car is taxed on the figure given to the DVLA by the manufacturers for that model. The emissions they measure for the MOT have no bearing whatsoever on the tax. SilverSoop
Honestly guys, DONT talk to me about bloody road tax!! :-(
SilverSoop
That's the UKs sorted. Problem is confusion over the imports and mainly after a particular year of actual import. Oh god you've done it now. Silversoop= Haha... :-D Exactly!
SilverSoop
Ask Silversoop Yes, £220.00 for 6 months and £400.00 for a year and i think is due to rise AGAIN! Thanks Mr Brown...NOT!
salaar
Hey guys, I'm looking to buy my first Supra, bit confused about the road tax issue. My supra is from 1993 but it says it was first registered in 2006. Does this mean that I pay the new emissions based tax (£505) or the old engine size based tax (£230) because it was made in 1993? Gaz6002
You should be paying the pre-CO2 rate. If the DVLA's system shows different, you need to call them to query it. You can show by the chassis number when the car was built.

sidewaysdan
Just got my reminder. £230 12 months if only that went on the potholes Edited May 6, 2015 by sidewaysdan (see edit history)
Guest Ash-IV
That's why its not called road tax anymore, and now "motor vehicle tax". Its so they don't have to spend it on the roads now.
krisgowing
£230 for 12 months on my 93 JZA. Not complaining to much considering since my 53 bmw was 1.8 tax was 205 a year haha!
TuneR
Our tax went up from the previously mentioned figures in this thread, its now: €1,494 for 12m, €829 for 6 or (as i do) €422 for 3m. So our 3m road tax is more than the UKs 12m, nice.
