Kopite
Thorin - can you copy out your eyetest prescription with the astigmatism? Depending on those numbers, it might explain your focussig problem from near to far and vice versa. Contacts are usually a different prescription depending on the astigmatism and if they've taken that into account, but also because of where they sit; specs sit further away so are usually stronger than CLs if you're short sighted as they sit on the eye, that's more for when you're at the -4.00 range though

However, upon trying my new glasses out last night, I can't notice any difference with the left eye (which is fine), but the right eye is quite noticeably more blurry with my new glasses than with the old ones... so I'm off back to D&A today. Carl_S
Purevision torics are great (sleep in them and everything) if you have rugby ball shaped eyes. Don't cost a lot in solutions either, and last and last. Can tell you some stories. But they get my vote for sure. But glasses still make you look more intelligent (which is partly why I avoid them). ivan
Thorin, how do D&As prices compare with others like Vision Express, Specsavers etc?

Ditto - been using these for a year or so. I've used contacts for 14 years now. Modern lenses let the eye 'breathe' much better now, which stops the eye yellowing...apparently my eyes are still as white as a 14 year-olds. It probably helps that I sleep with my eyes open
Kieran
I use the monthlys (sp?) and have a stash of dailys for when I'm off out and not planning on coming home or going camping etc so I only have to take a new set and not fanny about with solutions. Only bother I've had is when I've been out, got wasted and gone bed without taking them out. The next morning I woke up with the usual squiffy vision, assumed I'd taken my contacts out and lost them and put a new set in over the top of my old ones and gone out. My vision was OK but not spot-on even when I'd sobered up and I thought I'd buggered my eyesight with the ale until I found out what I'd done later. Twice I've done that. Thorin
Thorin, how do D&As prices compare with others like Vision Express, Specsavers etc? For what? Specsavers was probably a bit cheaper for glasses ordinarily (but my ones were half price anyway), but they had a crap selection at the one in Leeds, as did Vision express. Right : -2.00, cyl (-?)0.75, axis 65 Left : -2.25 There were some other numbers on screen... but I've forgot those, I think they were pupil distance apart or something? Contacts are Right -2.50, Left -2.25 Turns out that when they had input my glasses order the person had stuck a 1 in front of the 65 for axis so obviously quite a bit different... whatever it is. I was told before that my astigmatism was "quite low", is that right?

You lot are rubbish I'm usually pretty good with taking them out after a skin full, more often than not I'll manage to take a small film of plastic off my eyeballs and put them into a container without issues - but then wake up the next day fully clothed and still wearing my shoes! I was told before that my astigmatism was "quite low", is that right? Yeah 0.75D is not a lot of astigmatism, it's borderline noticeable if it's not corrected (which your contact lenses won't be doing). Toric lenses would correct it but it's usually pointless with your kind of prescription as you probably wouldn't notice any differance for the price increase. What they tend to do is use something called the "best sphere" i.e. take half off the astigmatism and add it to the short sighted spherical power, in your case that'd be 2.375 which of couse is unavailable, they've gone one step stronger so your RE will be borderline over corrected which is what you might be noticing with the longer refocus from near to far. The other option was to go a little underpowered at -2.25 which generally works better (especially if you're on VDUs all day) Do any of your lenses say "Aspheric" on them? If they do, then it's a little different, the aspheric designs would try and mask the astigmatism rather than generally ignoring it which the non-aspheric ones do, but they still don't correct it properly like a toric lens would. I do a bit of work for D&A as well, i think their main "D&A 1 day" lens is an aspheric lens. If it is that one, the you should really be on a -2.00 for the right eye and a -2.25 for the left. (If they're Johnson & Johnson Acuvue lenses, they're unlikely to be an aspheric)
Thorin
It is the D&A 1 day ones, and they do say aspheric on them yes I believe. They did originally try me with... Right -2.25 Left -2.00 When I went in for the trial, they put some lenses in front of my eyes to see if it made things any better once I had them in. The right eye was certainly clearer with the added lens so she changed that up to a -2.50. The left eye I couldn't really tell much difference but thought it might be very slightly better with again, so changed to -2.25 for the left. Will see how I get on I guess but I could always buy some -2.00 online as they're cheap enough and try the -2.00/-2.25 combination again. I'll mention it to them when I go for my checkup next week. Thanks for posting Ro, very interesting.
Kopite
Yeah if you mention you do a lot of close work and are noticing the focussing issue, they might drop the prescription if they can without blurring your distance It is the D&A 1 day ones, and they do say aspheric on them yes I believe.
