Contact Lenses

Cool aren't they. I've never worn them before but as I needed new glasses I figured I'd give them a go, dailies as I can't be arsed with solutions etc.. It's taking some getting used to them though. Only worn them 3 times so far, and for a maximum of 6 hours to date, and my eyes felt very tired after that yesterday. My eyes have felt better each time so far though so that's good.

Altering focus between close and distant objects seem to strain my eyes a bit with the contact lenses, but then they are a slightly different prescription to my current glasses so I guess it's getting used to that as well (off to collect my new glasses this afternoon).

My contact lens prescription is slightly different to my glasses prescription too, is that normal?

I've been wearing dailies for a few years now and get on OK with them. Just wear them for going out, sports/gym etc...

How blind are you Thorin? Best thing I did was have a shower wearing them cos I got to see steam properly for the first time. My eyesight is pretty bad so couldn't really see it without my glasses on and with them on they obviously steam up. Was really strange as I've been wearing glasses since I was a kid.

I get about 10 -12 hours before I need to take them out although if I'm in a dry or Smokey room they dry out really quickly... Air Con is a killer for me.

Just be careful you don't scratch your eyes, my gf had to have a cornea transplant after a scratch from a contact lens (very rare though) :)

Having said that they are still annoying, having to put them in solution at night, putting them in and out and having a right ball ache if you leave them in and fall asleep. Not to mention the hassle if you go somewhere and need to take your solution etc and basically having to plan the whole point at which you need take them out at night! :(

Cant wait to get a constant prescription so i can get my eyes lasered!!

Me and contact lenses don't mix!

I used to wear monthly ones but was constantly forgetting to take them out after a night out on the lash, getting them out after a nights sleep is no easy task!!

On top of that I was a sod for not using the proper solution, I'd sometimes just put the lenses in a puddle of water on the sink!

This ended in disaster once when I mistook a puddle of FCUK shower gel for water and put them in that. The pain of putting neat perfumed shower gel directly into your eye is something to behold! I got what I deserved though.

Eventually got my eyes lasered a couple years back, if you think contact lenses are cool - then this is a whole new ball game!

Worth every penny believe me! I forget I ever needed glasses now.

Presumably because the focal length is different. :)

Makes sense, I've got my new glasses now and find it's the same with those, will just stick with them :)

Yes, MUCH cheaper isn't it! I signed up to a direct debit scheme to get 10 lenses per month (as I think I'll still probably wear glasses most of the time), but if I get on ok with them I'll probably end up buying them online once I've had my "3 month checkup" anyway. I might get some of these http://pros.cibavision.co.uk/lenses/flod.shtml sounds interesting.

How blind are you Thorin?

Glasses are -2.00 & -2.25 (and some other numbers for the right eye as I understand I've slight astigmatism).

But the contacts are -2.25 & -2.5 as they seemed clearer :search:

Having said that they are still annoying, having to put them in solution at night,

Which is why I'm only bothering with dailies.

:rlol: I'll try and avoid that then.

Yeah I'd like to at some point, my mum is 64 and got hers done last year and hasn't had any problems.

Pros and cons mate, i used to have dailys but the optician recommended that i try this other type which were weeklys because i was wearing them for such a long period of time per day that the dailys werent suitable.

That was last year now, perhaps they have started making them in daily form now... at the time though weekly were my only option.

Got my lenses check next sat so will be a good opportunity to find out.. would love to get back on to dailys as long as they make them for long periods of wear

Use daily disposables then you don't need any solutions and no hassle with cleaning/storing etc.

Laser eye surgery - you show me a person who's had it done for 40+ years and I'll consider it!! haha

Oh and Axel - she is a hot chick with fake glasses on... so yeah of course she looks good. Put her in a pair of -7.00 and you wouldn't think so!

I've been wearing contacts for about 11 years now. Started out on the monthly ones but when dailies became available in my prescription I changed to those and they are much more convenient, especially after a night out or if you stay else where. Just take out and throw 'em away!

Worst thing I have done is one day I left one of them out because that eye had been a bit sore the day before. Came to the evening (might have been drinking..) and I forgot I had only one in. Trying to remove a contact lens that isn't there can sure make your eyes water!
