VVTi Questions

I've acquired a VVTi 2JZGTE, and of course have some questions :)

Firstly this forum seems to have a lot more VVTi talk and info, which is great! :D

Now for some questions, the VVTi JZA80's that are in UK, were they sold in UK or are they imports from Japan? Was the VVTi JZA80 ever sold out of Japan??

Also does anyone have a picture of the engine ECU showing the plugs, and the part number? (I have a JZS161 engine with no ECU, but I think a JZA80 VVTi 6spd ECU would suit me a lot better :) so am looking for one!)

Thanks! :D

Cheers

The JZS161 is the Aristo and the Vertex version was a TT 6-speed I believe (that had the same engine/gearbox fitted as the Supra). A few people on the forum have this car I think.

You would be best to check the exact part number for the JZA80 VVTi TT ECU using your car's VIN/frame number. However, I believe it is 89661-14820 for the auto. and 89661-14830 for the manual (both 5 plugs/sockets - maybe not all used on the manual?).

Just thought of something - if your car didn't have the VVTi engine fitted originally but received it from a 'donor' Aristo vehicle, maybe this is why you have that ECU fitted. Again, the VIN/frame number might help prove this either way. Re-reading your first post, it's not entirely clear if you have the car or just the engine ...

Welcome, by the way! :)

Thanks heckler, helps to know that they are JDM imports over there too :)

spartan: I made a few typos in my fist post! (JZA161 should of course be JZS161), and meant to read "no ECU" not "on ECU".

!

I've only got the engine, no ECU :) And seeing as I'm going to put an R154 behind the vvti 2jzgte, and as I need to find an ECU anyway I thought I'd look into a JZA80 one, as that way I can get a manual one :)

I wasn't sure if the engine ECUs that you have over there would be an option for me, but it sounds like they will be JDM and hence will suit :) The part numbers you gave check out with JDM JZA80.

As a note the JZS161 ECU is a little bit different as it uses the BEAN network where as the JZA80 doesn't (I've been told). The plugs are the same apparently so that's all that I really need to be concerned about :) I've got the JZS161 wiring diagrams, still tracking down some JDM JZA80 VVTi ones :)

Also no JZA80 here I'm afraid, I'm still living in the past with 80's cars :)

The 2jzgte vvti will be going into an MA61 Supra :)

I've already got an MA61 with a 1JZGTE and an MZ12 Soarer with a 2JZGTE (non VVTi) :), so have a bit of experience in that regard :)

Cheers

VVTi pinouts here http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=35919

If you have no luck finding a used VVTi ECU/harness, I can supply these new.

The excel spreadsheet there is the best, but it isn't very confidence inspiring in all honesty...

1 Yellow-black Idle bypass valve

This concerns me as 2jzgte VVTi doesn't have an idle bypass valve ;) It is done via the ETCS :) And as a result I can't trust the rest of the document :) (As a note I belive that pin really should be (PRG VSV for Charcoal Canister) :)

Pete's images don't work for me as it only describes 3 out of the 5 plugs.

What I really would like is something from Toyota in japanese, that way I can trust it :)

I've got a full harness, just no ECU :) I don't think a new stock ECU will be a cost effective option for me, I'd just go aftermarket instead :)

 Turns out I already had these tucked away...and some more.

Well there you go :)

I didn't post the others as they aren't VVTi related :)

I've been turning over a lot of rocks and I'm still looking for a JZA80 Engine ECU (2JZGTE, VVTi, 6SPD, JDM) :(

If anyone could let me know if they have a lead on one it really would be appreciated.

Part number will be 89661-14830

(may also be interested in Aristo JZS161: 89661-3A470)
