SupraShaun
Hey all hopefull somebody can help, i have a friends laptop at the moment which hes having problems with. For some unknown reason on boot up etc windows is trying to open certain files with Works. So on bootup im getting about 30 alert windows each saying "Works cannot open "path/to/file/"". So it looks like at some point somebody (not me ) has opened a file within the system32 folder, then clicked "Open With" and chosen works, then allways open with (or whatever the line says). I have tried doing a system restore but Works cannot open rstrui.exe ! If anybody can help me with this that would be great. Cheers all Shaun
SUPRALOOPY
find that file and change the open with options to take no action?
Pot
I've just done a couple of minutes of googling, and doing a Recovery Console (Not a system restore), seems to be the valid option, I'm 50/50 though as to whether it deletes any personal files... GlennK
Do a search for the filename in the Registry using Regedit. You may want to make a backup of the Registry before going further. The search may find it in a few places. The ones you want to check are in file associations section, run section and program defaults section. Worth trying in this place first: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Then: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\programname\shell\open\command HTH...
