JustGav
If you are considering rodents, what about rats, far more intelligent than hamsters (And less bitey)
Guigsy
I had a couple of hamsters. Good to look at and quite active and handle but one of them liked to bite! Rats are a good sugestion or maybe gerbills?

JustGav
No chance gav there horrible Hmmm, sadly most people think that, they are however much cleaner and more sociable than hamsters (and I'm biased, we have 3 )
Homer
No chance gav there horrible Rats are far better pets than most other rodents, more intelligent and more sociable (i.e. they interact/react to you, which is near impossible from most rodents). Just don't go getting one from the sewers

bluecoup
chinchillas also stink, chuck there sand bath everywhere and the ones i came in contact with are all anti social biters, id recommened rats to get them young and handle them often and they are great, my 2 id let out when i got home from work and they would follow me to the fridge for treats, and sit and watch telly with you go to sleep on your lap etc
Soop Dogg
Yep - rats are great. I once had 35 of them (Don't ask! The male got into the females cage and did what comes naturally) They're more sociable, cleaner, smell less and are generally far more interesting as pets than any other rodent. Supra Size Me
Some Goldfish, it's not so heartbreaking when they die when kids are young especially if one of their friends tells them fish live in the sea so they chuck a load of salt into the tank ........... Konrad
Rats are great, my sister had female one, very intelligent, she was walking next to you like a dog, when she knew that she will get something tasty to eat
garethr
+1 for rats. By far the best small pets. Golden hamsters sleep all day and have very short lives. Most rabbits are impossible to handle. Cavies (guinea pigs) are boring. Mice and Chinese or Russian hamsters are too small. Rats, on the other hand, are smart and entertaining and friendly, and big enough to handle easily.
