bolarbag
Whats the total current draw of the engine and ancillaries running plus just say a relatively high aftermarket cd player on idle? I've heard the stock 6speed alternator is able to provide 90amps and the Auto a little more
carl0s
I wonder if you could test this by putting the ignition to 2 or whatever it is (engine not started), so that the fuel pump, ecus etc run, and stick an ammeter in line with the battery. The only obvious thing I can guess is that the injectors wouldn't be running.
heckler
just find a friendly electrician and borrow his clamp-ammeter
carl0s
just find a friendly electrician and borrow his clamp-ammeter but you would need to test with engine off to leave out the alternator, and other than injectors I am wondering what else would be missing from the result. bolarbag
A point indeed, my problem is I dont have a stock engine, but I could just use my fluke meter with the current clamp on my mates pretty stock sup,
carl0s
Injectors and spark (ignitors / coils? surely they will draw a noticeable amount too).

JustGav
If you want to do it accurately... 1. Put current clamp on alternator supply 2. Start car 3. Disconnect battery 4. Take reading 5. Turn on lights, wipers, other bits (to get difference) - Take Reading 6. Connect battery - take reading (to work out charge current) 7. Turn car off 8. Take reading (to get standby current info)
bolarbag
Yeah thats a sound method, if he lets me do it;) I was stuck getting round the single cable with the alternator and battery connected I'll give it a try next time I see him - unless someone with a stock car can do it for me:innocent:
