johnd-mkiv
Great project mate will keep an eye on this thread, I see this car in the flesh when my car was being built at GBH motorsports, looked an animal
StuartW
Do i go street legal or full Pro? I have been looking at the classes eligable to run the car in. Now the HKS drag series does not insist on MOTs for the Pro Mod class. This has a big influence on how i go about fitting out the BEAST. I have studied the HKS drag series rule book and it is still unclear as to what class i want to run in? Does anyone have experience enough to suggest a series? Maybe Pro stock. (I have no idea) Although the thought of smoking it off at the traffic lights from Asda excites me greatly, I gotta realise how practical is a 2 speed drag gearbox to use on the road:blink: Insurance is no problem for me nor the MOT requirements, Also the car was built so far to be ROAD LEGAL Thoughts appreciated... One more pic.. See the Fuel filler flap deletion in the rear battery compartment..Truly Amazing Bodywork! DodgyRog
Going the whole hog then Stu. That would be mean along the front in Torquay and Paignton, show those Saxo a thing or two;)
michael
Keep it street legal if it doesn't compromise the potential drag times too much, I guess it comes down to having things like wipers, full lights, proper tyres etc for the MOT? Most things like that can be swapped out at the strip anyway can't they? You don't have to drive it on the street if it's legal but it'll be fun for that one day a year you decide to

StuartW
http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=159536 i must really love supra's and my neighbours will too!
StuartW
Having now virtually broken the donor TT supra, nicked all the trim and parts i need i now have some funds (And space) after building another workshop to house the parts and car!! So any suggestions for parts greatfully received Looking for *900+hp capable cams *Built bottom end or parts for job (Forged pistons, h beam rods etc) *Front braking system (needs to clear Weld pro drag rims, J spec too big!) *AEM Pro (so i dont have to nick the one from my GT35r) Although i have until beginning of next season i want to get parts organised as i know how long this can take sometimes
Wez
*900+hp capable cams HKS 280s *AEM Pro (so i dont have to nick the one from my GT35r) Why AEM, I guess you wont need the ECU to control an auto box, I would stick a Solaris S6GP ECU in it like myself, Jamie and Ryan
Terminator
*900+hp capable cams HKS 280s My VWR motor has 280's, fantastic from 5500 to 8500 rpm, and not half as bad as I was led to believe, on the road. The cams just love the GT74 DBB If you would like to try my 3800 stall TC in your box and it fits you can have it for £200 + a few goes in the car;) I have some used H beam Carrillo's as well I can't wait to see how this project goes. Guest KDW
Do not go for HKS cams, they are totally POS when it comes to big power/cfm. people tend to focus primarely on the duration which is far from the only factor. A very important factor when talking cams on a boosted 2jz is lift! And lift on the HKS cams are a f.cking joke tbh.. 9.3mm regardless of being 264 or 280, still only 9.3mm HKS cams are (or should be) intended for the mildly modified Supras, with stock bottom that don't want to risk running an interference motor. NOT for a serious built like this. What head modifications do you intend to run? I only see you asking about a short block, but a built head will be just as important to get that car running the way god intended. Oh and btw, 74mm turbo? Way to small!! Guest Tyler
Friend of mine Jon Giles runs this 1941 Willis coupe 496 big block. His Race team is fully funded by him self and it costs him a small fortune every time he visits the Pod - this weekend to name a few. This car is in the Super Gas and kicks outa healthy 900+hp on methonal... Good luck with it.. Always good to see a Supra doing the 1/4 Edited September 29, 2008 by Tyler (see edit history)
Terminator
Do not go for HKS cams, they are totally POS when it comes to big power/cfm. quote] How come these guys did not know that http://www.t04r.com/toptenhp.php Admittedly the data is a few years old, but these guys had a choice and higher lift cams were available then as they are now. Firstly thanks for the feedback...its exactly what i need I got a good used 74mm tubbie for cheap (ish) to start me off with,it non dbb, i have farrera valve train, dual springs and oversize valves inc all headwork to be carried out over next few months (Just waiting for collars to come) Head will be flowed by my local specialist. I realise the potential of this machine but i am also a realist, i dont want to jump straight in with massive hp without the knowledge and set up needed to stop me from smashing the whole thing (and me) up! Do you have any info on other cams? maybe a link? do you know any proven builds. What ear the pro's/cons? apart from the obvious interferance issues. My intentions are a five year plan to progress and develop this car with the help and vast knowledge and personal experience i can gain through mkivsupra.net Lots of research for me
