Ultimate Pro street Drag supra!

I am seriously considering buying this rolling chassis as a winter project to enter the HKS drag series in 2010!

Does anyone know any bad points as to why i shouldnt buy it or any history or it..IMO it is a dream car basis for me and will keep me smiling for many years..not to mention possibly being the basis for the quickest street supra in the world some day!

basic spec as follows

 

This car is sold as an un-finished, un-used project.

Converted by top Drag car company - Hauser Racing, in Northants, at the beginning of this year at a cost of over £20k this Supra is ‘believed’ to be the most modified pro-street Supra in built the UK, running 15 x 18.5 inch rear drag wheel. Hauser have supplied and fitted all the hardware as well as tubbing the standard shell and fitting the full roll-cage.

 

It was to be used as a demo car for a specialist bodyshop, who prepped and painted the car in SBE Viper Blue with House of Kolor Lacquer. The idea was to run a 1500 bhp Supra engine and get the car to run sub-Eight second quarters. The bodyshop however closed down so the car sits as you see it, nearly complete but needing an engine and finishing.

 

Basic Hauser spec as follows:

 

9 inch Ford axle with ‘Strange’ internals, spool and brakes.

 

Propshaft mated to Power Glide 2 speed drag box with Hurst quick shift.

 

Wheeley bars

 

Simpson parachute (all complete but not shown as removed for safe keeping).

 

Full fire extinguisher system

 

Full Aeromotive fuel system (pumps, regulators & tank with dash 12 Goodridge) rated to supply enough fuel for 2000 BHP.

 

On top of this the car is fitted with Fibreglass doors and bootlid, TRD carbon bonnet and sideskirts. It comes with standard rear glass and side glass (unfitted).

 

The stock Supra 2JZ engine block you see in the engine bay was used for mock-up purposes, as it has a alloy billet block-to-gearbox adaptor with flywheel, mated to the 2 speed Power Glide all ready to go.

 

The car comes with a stock front bumper, albeit modified, and painted blue as the rest of the car. There in NO rear spoiler - you wouldnt run anything on the bootlid on a car this spec... The bonnet is also carbon fibre. Note: For an additional £550 you can have new perspex windows all round, to keep the weight down. Lastly, it comes with door mirrors and handles all painted, which I forgot to photograph along with the bumper!!

Agree with Michael, it takes a huge amount of resource to keep a 1500BHP Supra pro drag racing, if you can fund it go for it but after watching the pro cars at the Pod breaking down with VERY expensive issues you would perhaps be wise to ask some of the teams the costs involved first

 

Would be great to see you do it however :)

If its the spec listed, then it probably was about 20K to sort that out

Only thing is - do you have another 20K to spend on an engine?

 

If you have quickest route would be to buy the chassis(depending on how much they want)

 

Buy Baz Titan engine Supra, take them tubbies off and install an absolute beast - T6manifold the lot, transplant the engine into the drag car and bobs your uncle!!

 

You may have enough left over after selling Baz tubbies and rolling chassis, your car and to have yourself a nice drag monster for sub 30K!!:D

well I already have my current Supra that i would break to build the rest of this one, Mine is currently becomming far less of a street car and my next stage was to strip and lighten it anyways.

 

Currentyl i have 572+hp with a 61mm turbo plus nos and am achieving 11.20 et's

 

I figure i transplant some parts :blink: and add my 74mm turbo with 4" exhaust system and i will be in the 9s:innocent:. I do not under estimate the commitment and £ involved in going serious but it would be an opportunity sadly missed if i do not buy this.

 

I am determined and have just come out of 5 years competing in NAtional OCR (Offshore circuit racing) Powerboat racing where i have been National champion for the past 2 years, Point being i need a goal and this is it:eyebrows:

 

It would be beyond my capabilities without a bodyshop and a drag builders know how to build what i am getting for under £10k.

 

Watch this space..any more discussion greatly received, No doubt i will start a project thread as looking to travel 600 mile round trip tomorrow to get the beast!

p.s. i DO aim to have this road legal as its build was intended! The Tyres ARE road legal!!!!!!!!!

Lol, I meant new blue colour - to respray my car!!

 

Can a car like that be deemed road legal? Suppose if its got an engineers report for the chasis and all the functional bits it should pass an m.o.t with a friendly m.o.t tester!;)

How fast would you have to run to be competitive in the HKS drag series?

 

Perhaps approach the traders both here and on supraforums for sponsorship? Also approach your local business too.

 

Are there any other series a 3000-3500cc turbochargd car can compete in?

How fast would you have to run to be competitive in the HKS drag series?

 

Some details of the HKS series, it's invite only if you can run the times they are looking for :)

 

Pro Class: Full tube chassis permitted. Detail changes only from 2007.

 

Factory Modified (FacMod): New class for “back-halfed” and “tubbed” cars. Natural step between “Pro Class” and “Street Class”. Chassis can only be modified behind drivers’ seat. This class will only be introduced once there are sufficient cars, until then FacMod cars will run in Pro Class.

 

Street: Road legal cars only. Must show MOT and use road legal tyres. Must have full original floorpan. 10-second index has now been removed, but cars must be equipped with suitable roll cage as detailed in the rulebook. New specifications listed for dual-purpose “Time Attack” and Drag roll cages.

 

Front Wheel Drive: Streetable full original floorpan cars- detail changes only from 2007

 

About the classes:

 

Pro Class: The top flight drag class, with the fastest cars being pure drag machines. BHP has to be over four figures to be competitive, and tube frames are essential for the best times. Four wheel drive and rear wheel drive is the only way to go, and ETs are now in the low-8’s, sure to go even lower in 2008. All cars have to have the original configuration engine to match their body.

 

Factory Modified (FAC MOD): New class for 2008 that is the natural step up from the Street class, where drivers are allowed to modify the rear-end of the car for a more drag-focused set-up, and run with slick tyres. Depending on numbers, this class may run alongside the Pro class for its first year, 2008.

 

Street: Set to be the most competitive and varied of all classes, this class is purely for road-legal cars with unmodified chassis, which allows genuine road cars and even circuit racers to compete. You don’t need a dedicated drag set up, but you do need mega power and great driving and tuning skills… especially if you want to run reliably. This class allows every type of quick jap car a level playing field, so Evos, Subarus, Skylines, Supras and RX7s can race side by side. Cars are currently dipping into the 9’s in this class, but can theoretically run as fast as 8.5 seconds.

 

Front Wheel Drive: Since the majority of modern cars are front wheel drive, it’s great to see what can be achieved with this as the limiting factor in drag racing. Currently, all cars in this class are 4-cylinder, turbo or supercharged, and highly “streetable”. The big challenge is transferring power to movement, but the top runners are already in the 10’s. Racing is competitive, affordable and still heads-up.

the car was painted at bibbys essex and believe he owned it, personal problems led to the demize of the body shop, shame really as some top jobs were done there its been on ebay for months now;)

 

Ah the guy who did the Chargespeed Supra. He did indeed push out some decent work.
