Guest morganl7
Hi all, I've been having problems with my Power Steering. Have read previous threads and have bled the system and topped up the fluid. However, this problem has been getting gradually worse over the past few weeks to the point now where I need to top up the fluid after every journey over 20-30 miles. I've used nearly a whole carton of fluid since Monday evening. I've have some advice from a few people, the latest being that I need a new steering rack. Does this sound reasonable? There's no visible leak around the pump or rack neither do any of the tubes look particularly worn or loose. If correct, I'm looking for a new/refurbed/slightly used steering rack which I'm hoping won't break the bank! Any advise would be greatly appreciated, Thanks. Scooter
IMO the system must have a leak to use that much fluid. Look in the passenger side front duct of the front bumper and the right hand side of the centre opening.(with the amount of fluid used it may even be evident in the passenger side front wheel arch or even the sill area under the door) You are looking for pipes that look like the element of an electric kettle................there could be a leak here if none has been detected near the rack itself (a leak by the pump or reservoir would IMO be obvious when looking at the rack). These pipes can corrode and you get a very small pin hole in them.
Guest morganl7
It seems to be leaking from the drivers side. There is a visible "pool" of what I'm guessing is steering fluid underneath the engine on that side...
