MOT Emissions Fail

Recommended Posts

Took the supra in for an MOT yesterday and it failed the emissions test. CO reading was 6.3 instead of 0.3 limit, anyone got any ideas on how to reduce this? I've had a search around and seems the most common route is to find a friendly tester so obviously I am open to PMs if anyone knows any within a few miles of Eastbourne!

The car has the front cat in and a kakimoto exhaust, I always thought it'd go through ok with one cat still there! Spec is FMIC, filter, colder plugs, 1 bar boost.

Any help would be greatly appreciated of course! Oh and the car will be for sale as soon as it goes through if anyone's interested :)

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your O2 sensor is past it's best. Mine gets through MOT's ok with one cat back in.

As above, it sounds suspiciously like to O2 sensor needs changing / cleaning.

You might get away with cleaning it (search O2 lemon juice) to get through the MOT but it will need changing soon if it's the culprit.

asked toyota few months ago, brand new sensor is around £120 or £140, something like that, i carnt remember now, mine needs doing as mine only just got thru. a good few miles drive and a blast up the motorway/carrageway before putting it on the machine i would think would help things along, the cats work best when red hot, so im told.

I have only got one cat on it as the exhaust has replaced the other one (Before I bought it). I guess I'll have to try changing the o2 sensor then... I'll post up how i get on :)

After reading up on this a bit it seems that I might be able to get the MOT center to test it as non cat depending on what the chassis number comes up as...

Thanks for the replies, still open to suggestions :)
