Star Trek

Another Trek thread from me.

Any fans seen there's a new film being planned, set in the very early years of the Enterprise when Pike was on board (was that his name?).

I'm not so sure about the cast though, Zachary Quinn (Syler from Heroes) is playing Spock! And Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz) is Scotty!!

I can see Quinn as Spock, I think he'll be good, and it is supposed to be a young Spock (plus Nimoy is in the case list as well), but still, it just doesn't seem right replacing all those well known faces!!!

What do we think? Can they pull it off? Clever makeup and effects make us think it is actually a young version of the crew we know?

Anyone seen anything else from it? Any clips yet?

They need to give the franchise a break really...before they really cock it up.

Enterprise bombed the franchise quite badly and a lot of the hardcore trekkers got upset. I didn't bother even watching past the first few episodes. I don't like the prequel ideas if I'm honest.

Me too, I've only ever seen half an episode of Enterprise.

I've heard the technology in Enterprise doesn't really fit the timeline as well? Because they didn't want to use cheap buttons and switches and beepy noises and stuff so they made it all modern and to hell with TOS continuity?

Indeed stuff about Borg, Xindi really mucked it up. Although the 4th season got back on track with the Romulans, but then the last ever episode = :shock: (in a bad way)

But the TOS really got the technological interface really wrong.

DS9 FTW! :)

DS9 just had annoying spirituality crap but Voyager had grating Janeway and Neelix :banghead:

I liked Voyager too, and I agree on the annoyance of those two too. I also didn't really like the fact they tended to refer to the 'latter half' of the 20th century a lot and the ship's driver, whatever his name was, and his 'restored' classic car. That did annoy me too.

Actually I don't know why I watched it at all, but then 7 of 9 was rather captivating! :sex:

Currently watching DS9 again from the beginning, it was a little more compliant with the script than voyager was, voyager went WAY off track suddenly at the end of season 7 and pretty much buggered up the story line....

DS9 = Eastenders in the future :)

Voyager = Littlest Hobo :)

However I do enjoy all 4 of the series excluding Enterprise.

  • 3 months later...

a loverly quote from Family guy "A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas" where Stewie is talking about the original captain in the pilot star trek

Stewie: Good evening. I am playing the role of Jesus. A man once portrayed on the big screen by Jeffrey Hunter.

You may remember him as the actor who was replaced by William Shatner on Star Trek.

Apparently Mr. Hunter was good enough to die for our sins but not quite up to the task of seducing green women.

I expect the people involved are great fans themselves so will do their utmost to make it the best they can. I'm looking forward to it.

Indeed, I didn't realize Simon Pegg has a trek fan, definitely makes a difference I reckon when they actually enjoy it rather than it just being a gig.

Hands up to being a Trek fan as well ... I'm sort of looking forward to seeing this but after seeing the picture of the young Spock on that BBC link, all I can think of is that's Sylar's face / grimace from Heros and I'm sort of changing my mind.

I've recently acquired all of the DS9 and Voyager episodes and just need to find time to sit down and watch the lot. I used to watch them but never saw the end of either series :(

To me it was like this

Original = Fight some guy in some sand

Next gen = Holy mother of god some swirly thing is trying to eat us

Voyager = Guess what's broke on the ship this time?

DS9 = Lets blow more sh*t up

DS9 FTW

Laughed out loud in my office at that... Thanks :)

DS9 for me... I lover Generations but DS9 is more gritty and vicious.
