Hi there guys. Im looking into buying a 93' Aerotop Non-Turbo Auto Supra for about £2,500. My plan is to purchase a Twin-Turbo engine with low mileage and Getrag 6 speed box to put in it. Do you guys know where I could the engine and manual box from? Also do you guys know a garage that can carry out this sort of work?

Cheers guys

Hi, i'm not sure if jez is still trading on here, but i'm sure he'll have an engine and maybe a box, but don't forget about all the other stuff, pedals, clutch set up etc. Do a search for 6 speed conversion.

failing that it might actually be cheaper to find a written off tt 6 speed and just break it.

and for the work, i'd go with matt @ AFR tuning, he's doing my 6 speed box on my aero, and he's already done a friends N/A to TT conversion

Cheers lads, ive been wanting to do this for ages but didnt know how much the whole thing would set me back. Can I ask how much your 6 speed box conversion is setting you back?

Cheers

Ive been quoted £10k for the gearbox swap and the engine swap. Does that sound alright?

No, thats an absolute rip off.

The last prices I remember for a full TT and 6spd conversion were about £3500 from Jezz. The most difficult part is the wait for the kit to be sourced - the 6spd getrags and drivetrain are rather hard to source.

It's not just an engine and box swap, the driveshafts, prop, diff, ECU, etc all need to be changed.

As mentioned, Jezz and Keron are by far your best options for a cost effective transplant.

I was wrong again, whoops.

Last year Jezz was offering a deal on TT and 6spd swaps for between £4.5k and £5k

or:

£2.5k to £3k for just a TT converison

£3k for just a 6spd conversion

Edit - cheers Gaz, I think those prices are more up to date :)

Oh, I havent a clue about the technical side of cars thats why I wanted to run it past you lot incase I got ripped off. Thats the problem is getting all the parts together. Wish I could find a Supra specialist that has all the parts in stock then drop the car off then a week later pick it up finished ready to go.

Whats the chances of finding a TT engine with low mileage?

Yeah theres an Aerotop on Autotrader for £3k. Its proberly a bag of crap but as you know im only buying that purely for its shell.

there was/is a NA aero for £3,000 on the trader

and there was/is a 6 speed manual TT for £5,900

With some haggling on the above two cars and selling the leftovers from a swap you 'may' be able to save enough to cover the labour costs...........so possibly less than £9k all in for a 6 speed aero?

The mileage isn't important provided it's got good compression, if anything it's age thats more an issue now - though most older ones only need some seals changed, perhaps the crank pulley and coil clips. It's all pretty minor stuff which can be done while the engine is out.

Both Jezz and Keron will be able to source a TT engine without any issue (Think they both have stock of them), it's the 6spd thats a little harder for them to locate.

The best bet is to contact them and get yourself in the queue for the parts to become available. Once they get the parts, you drive in, drop the car off for a week or two and then drive away with the new kit installed. Simple :)
