Chris Wilson
Anyone know how the fuel pump comes out of a 2003 Z4 3.0i convertible? Got one in with 20 PSI rail pressure, no wonder it maxes out at 35 MPH Thanks, I can't get it on the ramp until Friday, could do with knowing how long a pump change will take. Homer
Can't answer your question Chris, but google indicates there was a recall for some of the 3.0 Z4's for faulty fuel pumps. Although is was for over-presurisation issues (vapour lock as the yanks seem to call it)
bignum
i found that aswell, not much else though.
Chris Wilson
Thanks, seems it comes out the side, I'll jack the thing up later and see what's what, prior to actually doing the job tomorrow.
Chris Wilson
PITA job, lots of bracing and heat shields to remove, then the pressure regulator assembly comes out the passenger side of the tank. 2 hoses to undo, then you ferret about in the bottom of the tank and release a plastic tang to allow the fuel pump assemble and slevel sender unit to come out, disconnecting the electrical plugs as she comes out. All done now and 3.5 bar fuel pressure (less than .5 bar before, amazed it ran at all....). Pump was 158 quid. Labour? Loads
SteveR
PITA job....Pump was 158 quid. Labour? Loads lol I hadn't realised how varied the job could be from car to car. It's a doddle on the Supe but that's my only point of reference.
Chris Wilson
Tank out job on lots of modern cars mate!
SteveR
Remind me to forever stick with 'inferior' olders cars. I smile at supercars such as the Lambo Gallardo, you have to take the engine & gearbox out (verycarefully steering them through the rear hatch, of course) just to change the clutch. £3.5k job!
