TRD DAN
on the compression test got readings (1-6) 180-160-175-175-175-160 and on the cylinder leak test (1-6) 9% rings - 26% rings - 13% rings - 26% rings - 20% rings - 20% rings - and 30% rings what you you say to these readings i personally think it ok for the minute , getting a bit of blow by but nothing major rebuild now or wait a bit what you guys think ?? Homer
Moved. From what I understand the compression test results are not ideal, but are not disastrous either. The leakdown results don't make any sense. IME leakdown is a percentage of total pressure maintained from a preset value (can't remember what that is) after 30-60s. So you'd expect a fairly new engine to be around 95%, an older one with signs of wear 92-95% and below 88% means there is a major issue. You also listed 7 results for the leakdown test! Homer
From the manual: Standard pressure: 156psi or more Minimum pressure: 128psi Difference between each cynlinder: 14psi or less So, all readings are a bit higher than expected, however provided that first one is a bit off, they are more of less inside spec. edge
cheers homer , i am getting a bit of smoke but nothing excessive i would of said they was alright i think i will just saving for a proper rebuild now and get it done over winter /christmas i think chhers for the info Are you on stock tubbies? Rebuild imo would not be worth while when a second hand good engine can be had for less. If your running a fair bit of power then thats ok. Sure its not valve stem seals? edit. just seen that your on hybrids so nothing thats going to stress the engine alot more than standard turbo's running a bit more boost. TRD DAN
valve stem seals is a possibility , i would like to give it a rebuild anyway its done a bit of mileage and am not a hundred percent how looked after the engine side of things has been (internal wise) just think spending a bit of time a money on the bits that need doing i would have a very clean supra

Have a chat with a trader like chris wilson then they may be able to give you parts or parts and labour prices for various stages of rebuilds. Its not unusual for a good engine to be in the region of 20% straight off the assembly line, only race engines are built to within 5% and the pressure is usually 100psi makes it easier.
