Justin
Now that I am running just under 18 psi I have a new quirk. When I stamp on the throttle and keep it there, there is a spluttering from the exhaust like someone blowing raspberries. The power drops down too when the raspberries are coming out. Is this what they call running lean? Not enough fuel being pumped in? I don't want to have to spend loads more money :-( Is there a way to sort it out cheaply and safely. I think I will need a restrictor ring in the exhaust too because if I'm hitting 17.9 psi now I'm probably going to hit 20 psi when the colder air comes in the winter. Nothings simple is it! Help please guys
paulrenn
Yeah, guess it could be running lean, or bad spark plugs/leads. When did you last change your spark plugs?
Guest Terry S
Take it to CW & ask him to put his wideband in the exhaust to see what she is doing. Whilst there ask him to fit some NGK BKR7's or similar gapped to around 35 thou. Wouldn't get a restrictor. You are better off saving for a decent boost controller. Justin
Yeah could be plugs, hopefully! I haven't changed them since bought the car in January. 6 x NGK BKR7's then is it
Guest Terry S
.......or BCP11. Leon or CW are your best bet.
Ian C
Why not a restrictor? I know it's depressing, having to deliberately restrict the free-flowing nature of the engine to keep boost down, but is everyone more convinced than me that a boost controller can regulate boost below what the stock system can do? I need a restrictor, although I would rather have a wastegate that did the job, because I'm boosting to 1.4bar with the stock wastegate system in place! No boost controller will sort that down to 1.2... -Ian
Guest Terry S
Only from experience Ian. I managed to get my car with a 3" DP to hold below 1 bar with the Blitz DSBC. With it switched off it was 1.4 bar+ all day.

Branners
Terry and myself have suggested this before and the general answer was that the wastegate cant flow enough air so why would a boost controller help...? And the answer as always is, I have no idea but Leon has done it to 3 cars now and all 3 can hold boost down below the overboost level. Its not just a question of fitting a boost guage, you have to do some work with the pipework to make it do its thing. Not sure what boost controllers its possible with, the Blitz DSBC will do it for sure...after that its a question of trial and error.
