Steam cleaning engine bay???

Thats why you don't use steam cleaners/pressure washers.

Its the high pressure water/steam thats gets in everywhere.

I've done it plenty times using a gentle hose and never had a problem

(except for cut hands getting into all the hard to reach areas)

Just cover anything electrical with cling film and keep away from the valley between the cam covers. I did mine a month ago with autoglym machine cleaner and a karcher pressure washer, came up a treat and had no problems at all.

Remember the most important thing for cleaning your engine bay, go out and buy some good elbow grease you will need it. Cannot believe no one mentioned this to you. :D

DIY, then at least you're in control and you will get satisfaction if you make a good job. As said DO NOT steam clean the engine.

I must have steam cleaned, with the pressure wash set not literally on super heated steam, just very hot water, with traffic film remover in the tank as a degreasant, at least 12 MKIV's and they are still running fine. Just air blow out the plug wells and take it for a long drive to allow the engine bay heat and air flow to dry the rest out and it'll be fine.
