lexsum
damn dvla, damn insurance company. i am just trying to get a fecking number plate on a car and they make it so difficult. ok here goes. i am looking for one day insurance cover to get a car registered as my insurance company won't allow me to be insured from the chassis number alone. all the one day companies i have spoken to are asking for the registration number of the car. the irony is i won't even be driving the car so there is no risk of any loss! any clues or hints? Gaz6002
Surely you can register a car without insurance? If not, can't you get the DVLA to tell you what the reg will be in advance?
lexsum
nope - tried again - must be insured to get registered.
Gaz6002
The DVLA should be able to tell you the registration they are going to put on the car once registered. Use that to get insured and then sort your private reg out later on.
supra_aero
nope - tried again - must be insured to get registered. that doesnt make sense.
lexsum
i know - frustrating is not the word. the dvla put me on to BIBA who give out details of (coughs) helpful companies like GMI who will do 30 days 3rd party for £280!!! the guy admitted they know it is only so i can get it registered and that the companies like the one he was working for are taking advantage of this. Gaz6002
Can't you do what I've suggested twice? That's how Jurgen did mine.
lexsum
i phone them up and they said they can't process the registration documents without an MOT (easy done) and an insurance document for the car. i suppose a motor trader would just add the car to their policy and hence be covered to register it. Gaz6002
Did you import the car yourself then? How come you didn't use a trader?
lexsum
i bought it unregistered (never again!!) cost and hurdles are a nightmare and it is not over yet obviously.
Gaz6002
In that case matey it might be an idea to see if a pro importer can help you. There is a very VERY good one on this very site It might cost you a few quid but will save you one hell of a headache.
Jurgen-Jm-Imports
it needs to have a valid certificate of insurance on chassis (they should give you a temp cover for 14 days and then phone them up with your new plate or private reg).. or if they wont help it can be registered via a motor trade with their certificate but they will be 1st owners on car..
