bolarbag
If its all its cracked up to be in terms of the spec stated alone, then this is going to be a very tidy package indeed!!! The software is a little strange, but then so is every ecu on first try, I like this a lot, if its reliable its too cheap
SimonB
I presume it's nothing to do with Solaris as in the operating system from Sun? Or is it? Bit of a confusing name for a company in a sort of similar field! The other thing I haven't seen asked which people might be interested in is can it handle the stock idle control valve? I guess it would use up 4 outputs?
Ryan.G
I presume "downshift blip" is for auto/tip only? How else would it know you were about to downshift? Yes but im sure it can be made to work with a manual with a few tricks

Mapping one of these is not for the faint hearted If you are interested i can send you some logs so you can see the full potential of the logging software. Alex
I expect if you're on the brake/decelerating it could know that and blip the throttle. This would be set within tolerances so that a light decel in traffic didn't do it. Edited August 6, 2008 by Alex (see edit history)

johnny g
I expect if you're on the brake/decelerating it could know that and blip the throttle. How would it now how much to blip? You might go from say 5th to 2nd and the blip required would be a lot more than from 5th-4th? (I know you should really go down each gear )

I guess it would use up 4 outputs? I had nothing to do with the brand name so cant comment on that sorry Simon. Yup 4 outputs would go but there is still enough to run all the systems of a supra, steppers motors are fully support and fully working on Wesleys car. It also works using P+I for fully closed loop Ryan Keep them coming
SimonB
I guess you'd have to use a clutch switch. I can't see how you'd get it synchronised though. Anyway, that's half the satisfaction of driving a manual car, when you manage a perfect change .
Ryan.G
Do tell Well you're car will be the test dummy

(I know you should really go down each gear ) Well if you're going to drive like a tool then there's no help I expect you'd map this to happen under significant decel and maybe only you've hit the toggle switch... Ryan.G
Another bonus of the ecu is that you dont need to clutter the whole dash with gauges now. As the Solaris units can drive any sensor directly as well as K-Type's (no amp needed) So in the event of an unwanted parameter it will enable limp home mode. But i will also be keeping an eye on things through a dash2 which is fully supported on my new track toy. Is also alot cheaper than a complete defi setup http://www.race-technology.com/dash2_2_31.html

Wez
The ecu will also know which gear you are in based on speed and rpm. Which is great for gear based boost control :innocent:aslong as you dont have a speed delimiter still fitted

Muffleman
Great to see something a little more in depth available, and glad to see it's surfacing after your efforts mate The AEM is a great ecu but GEMS themselves have been using better hardware for a couple of years now and the AEM hasn't changed. MoTeC's are as we know great but price prohibitive for the most part. Look forward to a demo and a crack at mapping one

Homer
Ryan, sorry mate, another question... The S6 can do wasted spark, so presumably you could use it for an 8cyl engine? Would this still need something like a DLI? How much more is the S8 version? I'm guessing it's towards motec prices..
JamieP
I see lots of AEM's coming on the market, pity this was not released a couple of weeks back, only just brought an AEM:(
