Hermit
What kind of hose do you use to get a good seal on the stock fittings? I should say this is for my Soarer, but I think the fittings are the same, 10mm nipples, is that right? My cooler has 3/8 inch nipples, and is connected up using 3/8 Pirtek fuel/oil hose. Problem is it's leaking around most of the joins If someone could point me at some better hose to use I'd be most grateful
Hermit
Bump I keep searching but I can't find where anyone's said what hose they used
SUPRASUZUKI
3/8" or 10mm ID hose. I got mine from my local hydraulic hose / fitting suppliers.
paul mac
some pics might help diagnose your problem
Hermit
I'll try and take some pics tomorrow, but I'm not sure it will help much - just imagine a hose, on a nipple, with fluid on the outside It's not gushing out, not even leaving much of an oil patch on the ground, just the odd drip. I think I've stopped it leaking from the cooler connections by doing up the jubilee clips real tight, but I don't want to do that on the pipes that come from the gearbox in case they crush. And I'm pretty sure they shouldn't need doing up that tight anyway. So it's the right size hose, but is fuel/oil hose the right type? paul mac
as long as the hose is the right size it would seal, what you need to be aware of is the rating and type of hose, as SUPRASUZUKI states go to a hydraulic specialist and tell them what you want it for, it needs to be rated to about 150 C (anymore than that and your gearbox will melt anyway) if the hose is slack pushing it on the hose tails its to big, it needs to be a tight fit, if you struggle to push it on dip it in boiling water for a minute and it will fly on, on cooler pipes i always use 2 clips per end and once they have warmed up and cooled down a few times retighten the clips
Hermit
Thanks for that - the tip about using two clips in particular Seems obvious now you say it, but it just hadn't crossed my mind. And I'll go bother a hydraulics place this afternoon, I've got an old rad I can take the nipple off to test fit whatever hose they've got.
