123tom123tom
right i have just tried the cable that Heckler sent me and i still have the exact same problem..... As soon as i plug the cable in the laptop recognises it straight away and a bubble pops up in the bottom corner of the screen saying EMB cable connected and then the software also says online, even though i havent even plugged it into the EMB main unit it still says on line. I thought this was a little strange (me thinking online means when your plugged into the main unit.) I can not think what to do next it is annoying as hell. IT STILL WONT CORRESPOND EITHER!!!! no movement on the loading bar.:( Any ideas Simon????

123tom123tom
did you install the driver i emailed to you? yes i have installed the driver and that works fine, i have set the emb software to com5 and the com port which the cable is on to com5, i have got it the right way round, as you said it does only pick the cable up one way.... every thing seems to be spot on apart from the fact it wond correspond, i also tried to update the main unit to 1.39 and it said there was a connection failure.... maybe it is the software i have i dont think it is genuine, it is version 1.11 which is the first one i think, can anybody tell me what colour the disk is, ie is it black, white, blue:)

123tom123tom
there is a software update available aswell... yes i did do the software update but i then did a fresh reinstall of the software. The only version i can update this software to is 1.13 and that would need the 1.39 firmware for the emb unit, but i cant update the unit as it just says connection failure when i click update and give it the option update info..... so what next??? there is some thing i am missing but i cant put my finger on it!!!!! i hate EMB :( can anybody send me the new version in a zipped file or something..... the actual software i mean not the update..... the cable definatley works as i said before as soon as i plug it in it says emb cable then the software comes from offline to online. Tricky-Ricky
I would be inclined to see if i could borrow somebody's laptop and try that, and if it does the same then its down to a software or cable problem.

I am then doing it in the order it says, plugging the cable into the laptop then into the emb unit, then turn the ignition on, then opening the software up. the lights are lit up on the emb so that is on??? another quick question is the green light on the unit ment to stay on when you turn the ignition off:)
Tricky-Ricky
Green light should go out after a few seconds when you turn off the ignition, I usually open the software, plug in and then turn the ign on, if i have had any problems i have just unplugged/replugged the lead and it says communicating with main unit, (ultimate) Another option is to try your laptop with another unit, and then I'm afraid it could be a faulty unit. Tricky-Ricky
I wasn't suggesting it was sold faulty, but they can be damaged by bad connections/shorts etc, fingers crossed that another laptop works, it could even be i config problem, if the com port is being used or is reserved for another application it could be something like that, although you usually get some error message, but not always;) No jumpers and setup will not affect communication. Then i went into the EMB software - communication - com 5 seleted, was offline at this point then when i selected com5 the E logo in the top corner started flashing green and the bottom corner flashed up online. would it not corrispond if there was nothing on the main unit? 123tom123tom
right i have just tried another laptop with the same result as before. all com ports are the same the cable definatley works, tried on hecklers emb.... could the wiring of the unit cause problems, i personally didnt wire this unit but the emb unit active light stays on green even when the key isnt in the ignition. Any more ideas guys or am i gunna have to buy a new emb.
Tricky-Ricky
Its obviously got a permanent live, which it shouldn't have, whether it will affect it in the way that you describe i don't know, it does make me wonder what other wiring faults it may have though, get somebody who knows what there doing to go through the wiring, and if the unit is damaged then i would replace it with an Ultimate. Tricky-Ricky
Yes EMU uses the same harness, but has an extra plug/harness that you would need to add.
kieren1234
Tom, where abouts do you live. Do you know Rotherham?? My mate, Ricky does all my mapping and has mapped SteveSpedds supra too and they are absolutely spot on, the afr's are perfect throughout the whole rev range and it only cost £100 for him to do it. Yours may cost more as you will need ignition map doing whereas i didnt. If you want his number then drop me a PM and i will send it to you. 123tom123tom
hi there people, just a quick question again about this emb.... i have the injector wires wired into the field harness, but was wondering if i need the ignition wires also wiring in. if you look at the first page on this thread you will see the injectors are wired, but there is no ignition timing wires.
Homer
You don't need them wired in, it just means you can't adjust the ignition timing edit - are the ignition wires on the harness cut or just spliced in?

Homer
Ah right. Well you don't *need* ingition timing adjustment to get it started and running, but it is highly recommended. I remember a lot of timing adjustment on my old map in the TT switch-over area and at the high end.

123tom123tom
Ricky who? I didn't know anyone who maps EMB or EMU around here? apparently a good mapper round our area, mapped a few supra's, might just give him ago as there are no others in our area. he also does road mapping which is better according to a number of threads that i have read....
