Lexus LF-A to cost around £80k?

I was talking to someone from Lexus yesterday and she mentioned that the LF-A is going to be priced at around £80k for the hardtop version in the UK. The Roadster will be over £100k. This is significant for me as I'd heard both versions were going to be over £100k. £80k is a little more realistic IMO and should generate a few more sales.

She was very careful to tell me that the car isn't aiming to compete with the GTR. Nice little disclaimer there :)

The engine looks like a work of art, with the 10 independent throttle bodies visable on top of the engine. I'm looking forward to seeing it at WOT in the metal. The car seems to sit very nicely as well, it has quite an aggressive stance. I've got some good pics on a friends camera, I'll try and get them up soon.

whys it not competing with the GTR?

How can they release an 80k sports car which cant compete with a car a 1/3 less in price.

She said it was aimed at a different market. Fair play really - there isn't much that can compete with the Datsun in that price bracket... or anything under £150k. The Corvette ZR1 is faster in some situations but is no where near as user friendly.

hmmm it better be a v.good looking car to be able to compete imo. That's the only thing the GTR loses out on.

Oh it is... IMO it's a stunner. Not sure about the 3 exhausts at the back but I've got a feeling they will grow on me. I read that the GTR was meant to look burly and mean, like the R34 GTR. It gives the impression it's purposeful and "hard". The Lexus - being a luxury Toyota - is going to be a looker, a performer and a nice place to be. I wouldn't call the LF-A an underdog but I'd say it's more directly competing with the 911 models than the GTR.

And the GTR isn't competing with the Porsches etc? Maybe not on the luxury side, but its one heck of a car IMO.

I'm so looking forward to seeing the LF-A in the flesh. :yum:

The luxury or presitge element is what the GTR is missing in this respect.

Ill have one in about 15 year when i an pick one up for 4.5k;)

I don't know in 15 years, but in about a year more likely ;)

To me it looks a bit like a 350z at the front, Db9ish in the middle and a bit Murcielago at the rear.

Not a bad combination, but not as dynamic as the initial concept images. Then again when are they?! :)

This proto looked a lot better from the Rear, I'm sorry but if I had 80K spare I wouldnt be throwing it away on a car with so much black mesh at the rear

It looks fugly from the rear with that mesh, and what is with the white lip on the front and those mad arrow shaped headlights, it looks like a design that someone couldnt leave alone, it does have potential though - Q Veilside;)

You know TG will hate it, its Jap for a start and to be fair to them, they always go on about the Jap interiors, it looks promising at first then you see the black plastic creap in as per usual, not exactly 80G worth and thats them trying to spruce it up for a show!

Its gonna have to go like a rocket to be worth that and we know its not
