Havard
It worries me that in an incident like that, nobody tries to tackle the nutter. You will end up as a single person putting yourself at the risk of being killed rather than a group of you overpowering one individual......... Still, cutiing someones head off is a bit extreme!! H. Konrad
And our government want us to use public transport more http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7535840.stm He could do it in shop, at gas station, in your house - basically everywhere... Gaz Walker
Like Michael said though, it was the classic headphones too loud thing. Or maybe the wrong kind of music, Christian Rock perhaps.
Havard
It doesn't say in the report whether the victim was a chav or not. That would put a whole different perspective on it...... H.
SupraStar 3000
do they get Chavs in America? If not, maybe we should start to export them. Preferably on Greyhound bus's with a knife on every seat.

Bobbeh
This is in Canada, and no, they dont have chavs over there - not like ours at least I bet it was because of the music.. The guy cut off his head and starting gutting the body after he killed him apparently.

Have you ever tried to take down someone with a knife - especially a large 'combat' style one? To do it properly you would need to be very used to working with the other people involved - not a load of strangers on a bus - I wouldn't step forward first unless I was sure his back was turned. Add to that the fact that the guy appeared to be in a highly agitated 'frenzy'? One of the first things to learn about tackling someone with a knife is that they are holding the only safe bit. You will get cut up taking them on - generally very badly unless you can totally immobilise the knife arm immediately, or have a very sturdy leather jacket etc that you can wrap around your arm to try and take the force out of it. That's including if you are skilled in some form of martial arts, unless you too have a knife and even that's no guarantee. I think what they did was brave enough - would you want to be the bloke who this guy remembers held the door shut on him when/if he gets out? I don't blame the people for running away but I don't know if i could live with myself if i let somebody get knifed to death when i could have potentially done something about it ! we all carry a weapon with us everyday, a well timed throw of a mobile phone is enough to cause enough damage to a would be attacker. The bus would be very confined so the attacker would only have one route of attack a forward thrust type movement. At least they stopped him from getting away. I think what they did was brave enough - would you want to be the bloke who this guy remembers held the door shut on him when/if he gets out? In answer to your question....yes, I have tackled a lad with a "Rambo" styled knife many years ago but I was lucky enough for him to be threatening someone else as I came up behind him and tw@tted him with a baton...... What I am getting at Mike is that people seem to run away at times like that and that makes the job of the murderer easier. In an enclosed space like a bus it would be a lot easier to grab him than say in an open space. Either way it would be a knee trembler but I would rather die being stabbed in a confrontation that be stabbed in the back trying to get past a crowd of people on a bus...... I suppose in a moment like that most people would panic and run. I suppose until it happens to you then you don't know how you will react. It sounds like he a had a lot of time on his hands to stab someone 60 times and then cut their head clean off...... H.

Mike_Mac
Good Points Agreed and it wasn't a go at you at all - just the fact that it would take a very ballsy person to take that type of bloke on unarmed rather than just take the easy self-preserving option - panic and run ASAP. In a crowded bus you do have more options to grab someone, but you also have no opportunity to create space if you have to - which means if it goes wrong you're stuffed. My only genuine experience with a knife-armed person was fine - but then again I had an assault rifle and was able to move back and make ready, so he very quickly put it away again and was arrested! Ian C
Ironically I'd be much more comfortable to take on someone wielding a firearm. You weren't made ready???? Without one up the spout you might as well just t*at them with it Anyway, once the people on the bus actually realised what was going on it would have been too late for the victim. Most 'normal' people are completely unaware of their surroundings and would be totally shocked and freeze in such a situation... only properly trained people would be acting fast on instinct and training. I'd say it was the right call to evacuate the bus and baracade him in. Let him only target one victim. No need for multiple victims. Personally I'd have done the same. Unless I was at work, but there again what would I be doing on a bus
