20 Hz GPS units?

How much would I have to pay for a 20 Hz GPS unit with RS232 output? Before you ask me anything techie I don't know anything about GPS, save that I can connect such a thing to my Motec dash and it'll use it for logging without a track beacon. Cheers. I believe a firm called Blackline may make one?

You will need to find out what sort of input the motec expects, GPS usually comes in a simple NMEA format, however some aren't always. If the motec takes NMEA then you are laughing, in fact I have got a serial based GPS unit somewhere at home you could have :)

You've lost me already! I will have to ask my Motec man just what it needs. I know only that 10 Hz is OK, 20 Hz much better. Is that some sort of refresh speed? Thanks.

Yeah, I would assume that is the sampling speed. ie it gives GPS info 20 times a second (20hz)...

I'll dig out the one I have at home, and if it is a go, just remind me and I'll post it up to you.

20Hz GPS Data-Logger - Racelogic VBox VB20SL3

This new model VBox is a 20Hz GPS data-logger which can measure Speed, Pitch, Roll, and Yaw (Slip) angles.

Key features include an advanced triple-antenna GPS engine with 20Hz update rate for highly accurate measurements of Speed (0.1km/h), Distance (0.05%), Acceleration (0.5%), simultaneous Slip, Pitch and Roll angle (Slip angle to 0.1° rms, Pitch and Roll angle to 0.25° rms), Yaw Rate (0.1°/s), True Heading (0.1°) and Lateral Velocity (0.1km/h).

Justin Mellors, Sales Manager of Applied Measurement Australia commented “the key benefit of this exciting new product is that it represents a single, self contained, fully portable testing platform.”

The unit also features a bright LED display screen, CAN bus, RS232 and USB interfaces, 2 x analogue I/O’s, 2 x digital I/O’s, data logging to SD card and is fully configurable via the front panel. A voltage input range of 6V – 30VDC, combined with the small, lightweight construction and simple installation procedure, means that the VB20SL3 is ideally suited for use in many applications including cars, bikes, off-road vehicles and especially boats.

Old serial GPS units aren't likely to be updating anywhere near 20Hz though are they? I seem to remember getting an update every 2 seconds on one a few years back, so 0.5Hz :)

10 or 20Hz may be quite specialised.

Valid point, I'm not 100% sure will check mine.
