Supra Chevy v8 Project - next phase

Bought this Supra with chevy small block v8 and T56 box off RXv8(top bloke) as it is something totally different and I'm a muscle car fan at heart! Couldnt resist.

Original thread:

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=132766&highlight=cowl

I've got another black 93 Supra TT 6 speed BPU with hybrids which I love (you can't beat boost - problem is you always want more!!) but it now has to go to fund the next phase for the v8. When I have finished swapping over some parts over to the v8 (gibson trimmed seats, strut brace, mint wheels, rear spoiler, Tanabe sustec pro coilovers etc) I will post the TT up for sale on the forum.

rxv8 did a really nice job so far with the v8 - really inspired combination of SBC and T56 with tidy fabrication etc but it does need some finishing/cosmetics, including a different rear end - the NA diff isnt going to last and is open so just spins up one tyre. I have a LSD off an previous TT auto which I will see if it goes in for now (is the NA and TT diff casing and prop the same?). I'm looking for a 6-speed LSD as that will drop the ratio (numerically) for a better match with the g/box ratios.

Also still overheating with repeated air locks so I've a header tank to go on to replace the thermostat housing so the bleed/fill point is the heightest point in the cooling system. This has worked for me in the past where the rad is lower than the engine top so I figure I'll give it a go.

The car is currently in the bodyshop for a Whifbitz front bumper and Veilside overfenders. Will post up some pics when that's done. Not sure about the colour yet - either I'll stick with black or perhaps pearl or metallic dark gunmetal (like the Aston Martin colour). Maybe I can't resist some shelby stripes in black but sure you guys will hate that! Needs a small bonnet bulge to clear the intake.

As you can probably tell I'm getting a bit overexcited about this project and my credit card is taking a beat down because I also came across an as new 2nd hand procharger supercharger kit whilst I was in US with work a few weeks ago so that will go on when I get the car back.....should make it even more interesting.

I dont know whether the engine has forged pistons, rods or crank but i understand it was previously running 150bhp(?) of nitrous when it lived in a camaro without any issues (might explain big cam and lowish compression of about 9:1?) so hopefully I can get away with moderate boost (6psi? :D

Will keep you posted with some pictures.

I also have an old 63 chevy biscayne with a 409ci. BBC (W head) which needs finishing and bringing out to play....has run 11 dead in 1/4 but I don't have the cash to finish this and the supra ...my eyes are bigger than my wallet..!!

Cheers

Paul

ps. check out the mustang the guy I bought the procharger is running - not Jap but as similar as a US car can get. He said it is pulling 15 lbs of boost through a forged out 4.6 liter, pretty much maxing out the P-1sc procharger in it tring to get to 520 rwhp. Has a 5spd, but he is working on getting a Tremec T-56 tranny for that 6th gear! All in good time lol.

I also attached some pictures of the chevy if you like that kind of thing....

Hi Jamie

I'm nr Chesham, nr M25 what about you?

It is all a bit frustrating on the project front at the mo -I'm on hols with the family which is great but it means no progress! I'm having to make do with surfing for parts. I've tracked down a nice UK brake set-up with uprated discs and braided lines (Do Brembos and the like really make a difference outside hardcore track use - what do you reckon?). I've also found some missing interior parts (that is the great thing about the Supra community you can pretty much find whatever you are after!). I still need to sort the rear-end - I've got about 10 calls into Silverstone Garage (Jezz and Steve) to try to get them to track down the Auto LSD rear end they took off my old car when they did the manual conversion....will keep trying:search:

Yeah - Knightracer are doing the bodywork. Albert seems like a good chap and has so far done exactly as promised and is conscious of price and timing and also to get it "right". We've both been frustrated by the slow progress which is because I ordered veilside overfenders from Envy Performance in mid-May but still haven't received them...that is pretty poor IMO! Hopefully we will get them this week and crack-on as Albert is twiddling his thumbs....

I've decided to get rid of the rear wiper and washer jet and aerial and also relocate the fuel filler inside and close up the external fuel filler flap to clean the car up.

Ive decided to paint is pearl yellow.

No only kidding:p - each to their own but I'm getting to old to drive a lairy coloured car so I think it will be Aston Martin Meteorite silver which is a dark gunmetal metallic colour. I was going to stick with black but thought I would try something else.

I'm putting a scoop (off a 67 Vette) on the carbon bonnet I already have off my old car so that is sorted. I need to track down a properly modified blower holley carb to put the Procharger on and I will probably add another fuel pump, boost sensitive regulator and a return line to the tank (must check if the stock one is still there). Only problem is I have to wait until I go to the states again with work to bring back the procharger (hopefully mid sept).

Trouble is, one mod leads to another so I may need to change the wheels as I've 8.5's up front (fine) and 10.5 at the rear which might be a bit small. Where did you get your 12 inchers on your last project? Sure they cost big bucks?

Just missed out on the cusco 6-point cage the went up on the forum (I'm too slow - I missed it for second time). I thought a cage would be good to tie the whole car together as much as for the roll-over protection.

Anyway, hopefully I can speed things up on the supra in Sept. but I need to stop messing with other cars as I've got a modified MGC roadster which I went to the Nurburgring in last weekend for the Oldtimer GP (old skool BDA escorts, 90s Le Mans cars to cobras and GT40s - I need to go back there with the supra when the track is open) and an cobra kit car in the garage with a small block ford which I also need to finish to put back on the road, as well as the old chevy... Basically I'm trying to do too much and nothing is getting done. I think I will sell the chevy and use the money to do the supra properly and get it finished ASAP.

Jamie -Ive been following your project thread - you dont waste any time mate - you will be on the road (track?) before I get my car back from the bodyshop at this rate! It is looking good...!!

Cheers

Paul

Only up the rd then, im in Beaconsfield we will have to catch up when you get the car back, look forward to see your other cars:)

Uk brakes are pretty good, ive gone with the big Brembo monoblock front and rear setup on mine, id imagine they are gonna be awesome, will let you know what they are like when i get it back.

I like the sound of Aston Martin Meteorite silver:cool:

I got my STS trafficstars from Ibrar, good guy to buy from and knows what he is doing with offsets unlike some other traders i hear about;) they was about 4k with tyres.

Cage is a nice addition, pm johnd-mkiv he is looking at building some custom cages, i want him to do me a rear one.

Good luck with the project Mate:)
