jevansio
Next step was to replace my crumbling SMIC. I decided to go with an XS-Power FMIC (which has remained on the car until very recently ). Again this was purchased from Michel, it was £500, but came with an original Greddy 3-Row hardpipe kit, coolant relocation bottle & free fitting from Michel The core is the same 12" x 24" x 4" dimensions as a Greddy 3-Row, although the endtank design is nowhere near as good. TBH it served a purpose at BPU level, but I should really have moved upto a quality item sooner after going single. I do believe the ducting which I made (I'll come to that later) helped tremendously in the efficience of this core PS ignore the dump valve, this pic was taken at the time of my single install. Tom
Anyway the exhaust I chose was the HKS Ti Racing, I wanted something that sounded mint & I was bowled over by this video/sound clip. back in the day I wanted this exhaust on my tt but I didnt realise going single would completely change the sound of the supra, I think I would have been fairly dissapointed after spending that money and expecting that sound on a TT! good thread btw! jevansio
So the car was now fully BPU & I was enjoying it immensely, so much in fact that after a month the clutch started to slip. I had already had the "single" seed planted in my head by this point so I decided to get a clutch that would suit my BPU & future needs. I went for the RPS Stage 3 from MVP & Cyn-R-G flywheel, I took MVP's advice & also changed the throw out bearing, pilot bearing, flywheel bolts, & snap ring. In total with shipping & taxes it came to approx £900.
jevansio
With plans for a single build in full swing I decided to go for a full set of defi's to keep an eye on things. Problem being the ones I wanted (BF in blue as they were smoked when off & had the startup/shutdown sequence) only came in 60mm. I didn't want gauges all over the a-pillar & passenger airbag space, so I decided to do a custom mount for all the gauges where the stereo goes, this involved losing the stereo headunit for the time being. I started by positioning where I thought the gauges looked best in Photoshop: Then used a wooden frame with holes to hold the gauges secured to the back of the original dash plate, I decided 6 would not fit below so moved the boost gauge into the left hand side air vent: I then used fibre glass & filler to build the curve at the bottom back up then many hours of smoothing & filling & spraying with primer to get it back to the original shape: The end result once sprayed matt black, you can see the optional Defi indicator light on the steering column which lights when any of the gauges pass a preset warning level: Here is a short YT video showing the startup, throttle blip & shutdown sequence of the gauges: 6k3xq1FNVpA Edited August 28, 2008 by jevansio (see edit history)

jevansio
Right, lets get this thread back on the go. The next step for me was a single turbo installation. Michel was offering a full single install with a built engine & head for £8k. I decided that I may aswell go the whole 9 yards and get the lot done. The work was carried out by Storm Racing. jevansio
Step one was to prepare the old engine for removal:
jevansio
All that for 8k? bargain:) It started off as £8k, I ended up pushing it up to £12k as I added extras on (DBB vs journal bearing turbo, Greddy Inlet, various bling items)
