If this bint has such a pressing need to wear this stuff maybe her parents should have read the school rules and decided to send her to the school in the same catchment area that DID allow the wearing of jewellery, rather than expect the school they chose to change the rules to accommodate her? Bit like buying a house near a race circuit then complaining of the noise....

Spot on Chris. How does the phrase go? "When in Rome, do as the Romans do..."

And as someone else said, the tragic thing about this case is the damage it does to authority figures such as teachers. Wearing a bangle wouldn't help or hinder her education in class, but it was in the rules that they shouldn't be worn.

Religion is a very tricky subject, and people are prone to tiptoe around it in fear of upsetting someone. I don't know how offended (or whatever the appropriate term is) the girl would be if she were forced to remove it (and couldn't attend a local Sikh school because there were none). It's a genuine question, I really don't know.

I teach in many secondary schools around London and from time to time I work in a particular Sikh school.

If we use the *prayer* room to work in for self-defence/martial arts training btw, I am asked to wear a banana to cover my hair in repecet of their gurus. Many pictures of them on the wall etc.

I am not religious- I do it.

I look like a tit wearing one- I do it.

It's their rules- which I will go by for the time I'm in their school.

The courses with the students are very enjoyable btw :)

She'd probably be mortified, to the extent compensation would be needed, and the formation of another self aggrandised minor celebrity created, with her ugly mug seen for weeks on the lower echelons of daytime TV. If the school fails to meet her rather specific requirements maybe the private sector could cater for her, fees can't be an issue, a court case going to the High Court can't be cheap. Oh, or could we, the great British Taxpaying none entities, have been financing this? SURELY not?

I think we all know about the typo here-

Priceless avatar change, LBM :D

I can't take all the credit- but I will :D

Actually the man has done it again- along with some rather splendid tags :)

And on-topic, I don't think the case should have ever even gone to court, but then thats the legal system for you. I'd close the school out of spite if I ran it :)

Agreed.
