Thats a bit silly, just because she/her family are not white does that not make UK their country? Seriously!!

Sorry bad example, what I meant was if you visited a predominantly sikh country you would be expected to follow their rules.

Perhaps had you read my second reply you would have understood more what I meant, although granted it was not well explained initially.

If I went to a Sikh school I would be expected to follow their rules and am sure that if I was wearing a crucifix or something unacceptable (for whatever reason). I would be told not to wear it and that would be the end of it.

I have no problem with race or religion except when time and money is wasted on cases like this for no good reason.

Im pleased this girl won her court case, what a downright disgusting thing to do to ban someone from education just because they wear a bangle -

anyone who thinks otherwise should be totaly ashamed of themselves.

The pathetic Uk gets more pathetic as each day passes.

If you have faith you dont need symbols to prove it. I agree with Lynz, if we were to go to a sikh/islamist etc state/school/whatever displaying symbols of christianity you would be told to remove them.

Yes Darren the girl shouldnt be denied education even if it is welsh, but she should also respect the rules the school has in place that everyone else adheres to.

Religion is not a topic to be trifled with.

I agree with Darren k well said buddy

if wearing that bangle is part of her religion then she has every right to wear and that should be same for rest of religions a small item to represent their religion is no big issue scholl should not have made a mountain of a mole hole, teachers get paid to teach, Its called standing up for your rights fair play to the young girl and i hardly think this case is gonna make much saveing to the tax payer compared to what is wasted on other things.

No she doesn't, school policy says (or said) that items like this shouldn't be worn by anyone.

and that should be same for rest of religions a small item to represent their religion is no big issue

Ah... now we are getting somewhere, you see the case in question isn't for all religions, it's for one, do you think that all of a sudden everyone else in the school will be able to follow this with their own religious treasures? I don't see it happening somehow.

scholl should not have made a mountain of a mole hole.

*snigger*

teachers get paid to teach.

And school governors get paid to govern/

It's called being weak and demanding, if someone needs to wear such a thing to get through life then maybe they need something beyond school to help them with their mental state? It's a chunk of metal, wear it when you get home if you need to.

And the case hasn't made any saving to the tax payer, how could it?

But thanks for your input, which school do you go to BTW?

Can we have a ruling whereby the people who bang on about their religion as if it makes them better in any way, shape or form get shot in the face?

I think it would make things a lot simpler for the rest of us.

Seriously, and I've said this before, religion is holding back the progress of humanity as a whole.

:D

I have no objections to people following their religion of choice, but when they kick up a fuss that their religion doesn't seem to work with the ways of a Christian society, it really annoys me. Either s0d off to another country or wear the chunk of metal during your own time.

Girls in my school were allowed to wear one plain ring. Anything else was confiscated and returned at the end of the day.

And I agree with the comments about being weak minded if you're so dependent on a shiny trinket.

The other problem in all this is that the parents have failed and their kid stands more chance of being undisciplined now that the school's authority has been undermined. Too many parents don't think school rules and generally "strict school" is important. They think it's fine to threaten and undermine teachers.

She wants a bag over her head, not a bangle, ugly @+@~%$ :)

:)

I saw yesterday that the girl had previously been banned from walking in the corridors with other students. She had to wait to go to class until everyone else had gone. It makes me wonder why that could be? It's not like the family were trying to fight that through the courts and that seems a greater invasion of her civil liberty. It provokes thoughts that maybe there is a little more to this than just the bangle thing...

If this bint has such a pressing need to wear this stuff maybe her parents should have read the school rules and decided to send her to the school in the same catchment area that DID allow the wearing of jewellery, rather than expect the school they chose to change the rules to accommodate her? Bit like buying a house near a race circuit then complaining of the noise....

Precisely - so why do the high courts deem rulings in the way they do, to 'keep the peace'?

We might disagree over Supra styling(i'm happy with my 19's:D), but that has to be the best comment so far in this thread and I completely agree.
