Electrical Issue

as in the other thread i broke down last night, i lost speedo, rev counter, mileometre, stock temp gauge, electric windows, my battery started draining and then cut out, dead battery, i got recovered back home.

Now i found a 10amp fuse blown so i changed that and put the jump pack on, it then allowed me to close the windows

Now this morning i went through every fuse in both boxes and could find no more blown ones

i jumped the car and it started no problems so i quickly took the jump pack off (to check if she would cut out) and it carried on idling, so put the aircon and the headlights on the engine laboured a little but continued running, so i switched them back off and let her idle for about 15mins then turned her off.

I then left it for a further 20 mins and she started, now that fuse is the 1 in the drivers footwell that is marked (on the underside of the box) as ecu-ig 10 amp:search:

What ius it your confused about Gaz ?

apart from life col, can one 10amp fuse cause so much to go down, it stopped charging the car when that 1 fuse blew:search: i could understand it stopping a few things to stop working, but to actualy make you break down:blink:

Do have any 'dash gadgets' or something perhaps that has been wired into the loom that runs along the dash. My first assumption would be that a new unit has added an additional load, might not be 100A's worth, but could be 15A's which would pop a fuse, maybe not immediately but over time.

I will pull up the wiring diagram's and see what is run off that fuse.

just the gauges and they have been in a long time, i did have the wiring that was for the old auto box tidied up, i also found a trapped wire in the engine bay that supplys power to the twin fan setup, a live wire trapped between the fans and intercooler pipe, and can see bare wire so i am hoping it was that causing the problem

Bare wire? Yeah, that is usually the reason :) (And if not, it may have been in the future)

Where are the fans wired to?

mmmm just traced them and they are going to positive and negative on the batery with an online fuse:rolleyes: i must get a switch for that, could any of the old wires that were tidied up under the car(old auto gearbox wires) be the cause of the blowing fuse, its blown twice now

I'd hope there is a relay between the fans as well, as they can't be perm. on the battery otherwise they would run 24/7. It is very likely that an old barewire from the gearbox could be responsible. The issue here is that it is impossible to say remotely what would cause the issue as there are a number of things possible and certainly more than enough wire in the loom to cause it.

oops sorry gav yes a relay too:D i have a feeling it could be something with the old auto wires too, just trying to get my head into thinking gear as to how to get the car up in the air, so i can get under for a fiddle (no ramps) but i have wood and paving slabs:blink:

Tow rope thru the doors and use one those big cranes you use :) Seriously though, might be worth getting it up on a set of ramps just so you can be sure, visibility is a bugger when you are 2inches away from the floor.
