hadyn
Bought this second hand 2nd decat off TDI on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230269846606&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:PIC&ih=013 Tried to fit it yesterday and unfortunately the hole on the flange at the front of the decat appears to be too small to accept the 1st cat. Pipe lines up fine but just wont pull together due to the difference in diameter between the decat and 1st cat holes. The 1st cat has a lip which seems to foul the decat. Any ideas? Am i doing something wrong? I think the front has been modified (as shown in the ad) and therefore doesnt fit...

keron
ive had a few like that in the past...you have to chop the bit off the 1st cat to allow the 2nd one to butt up to it...its about 1.5cm roughly but grind/cut it away and it will butt up ok... colsoop
It appears to have been modified at some point, as there is a section towards the front end that appears to have been extended or replaced. Well that may be why it doesn't fit.
hadyn
Any ideas on how to grind off/remove that bit of the 1st cat with the 1st cat still in situ???

Scott
Not sure, how easy would it be to lop off the end of the 2nd cat, bolt it into position finger tight in place at both ends (obviously they wont be joined). Then you could bring it into position with a set of extra hands and tack it into place. Remove the 2nd cat and weld properly.
hadyn
That seems like mega hassle just to fit a 2nd decat. I think im best off just sending it back to tdi...
DodgyRog
You out bid me on this, sorry about the hassle. I messaged him and asked if the modification would cause any problem and he never answered, so I only put in a low bid just incase. Good luck getting it sorted
hadyn
This is the response from Mark at TDI, when I informed him about the decat not fitting: "Hi, it should fit perfectly (it came off a JDM TT). Pleas take another look at it. You can send it back if you want but we can't refund your postage costs. Best regards, Mark" I've replied saying that I think the decat may have originally been fitted to a tt with a 1st decat with flat flange. I await his response. Trig
its not as much hassle as you think, you just have to grind the flange off. very easy to do.
hadyn
Do I have to remove the 1st cat to grind the flange off? Im worried it will be a nightmare in situ. Whats the best way to get rid of it? Hacksaw?

You can do it in situ but will be a bit trickier, angle grinder is your best bet but a hacksaw will do
hadyn
Any tips? I havent got an angle grinder and the 1st cat has to be in situ. Will it be a helluva job without an angle grinder???
Dazzi
Get your hands dirty, crawl under the car and inhale the metal fibers
miko_supra
Hmm strange, my second decat (2nd hand ebay one) doesn't line up right and i need to get an angle grinder on the top edge of the flange too

Perhaps a lot of these pipes are only designed to mate to 1st decat pipes with flat flanges?

I dont think it will be that bad, just have a few spare hacksaw blades to hand
hadyn
Just had a message back from TDI stating that they wont refund postage, but that it should fit perfectly as it came off a JDM TT and should fit with or without the 1st cat. Do you think I've been a bit of dumbass in fitting it?
hadyn
Has anyone overcome this problem without getting the hacksaw out? Im baffled why TDI think it should fit...
