Benzsupra
Hi everyone, Before it's suggested i have searched for this but i can't find anything that matches my problem. When i go over rough or bumpy road i get a rattling noise which appears to be coming from the front driver’s side wheel. I've seen all the suggestions for re-torqueing the sub-frame bolts, knackered shocks or dampers but the weird thing is if i apply even the slightest bit of brake the noise seems to disappear. I was thinking maybe rattling brake pads or something, I’ve had a little poke around and everything seems to be secure though. I was wondering if people still thought it could be the shocks or sub-frame bolts etc if so then why does it stop when i brake? Any ideas before i take it to be looked at? Thanks, Ben
Ian C
have you checked the anti roll bar drop links? I hear they can rattle when loose like this. -Ian
Benzsupra
Would you be able to tell me where i'd find them... I will do a search for that too though, must be something on it. Thanks.
Nic
I'd check the pads are held in properly and also check to see if there is any play in the wheel bearing. The near side front wheel tends to be the ones that gets curbed the most and subsequently the wheel bearing that goes first.
Nic
Would you be able to tell me where i'd find them... I will do a search for that too though, must be something on it. Thanks. The blue part (stock ones are black) is the anti roll bar, the small shiny part on the end is the drop link, I only have a pic of the rear one, but the front is very similar. http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/5765/img2095zg6.jpg
Benzsupra
Thanks Nic, i did think wheel bearing so i gave it a good shake but it feels tight, no play at all. i'll have a look at what you've shown me see if that's rattly.

Did you jack up the car to check for movement in the wheel bearing?
Benzsupra
No... I didn't think i had to but i will now lol. (Cowboy Alert!)
Nic
No... I didn't think i had to but i will now lol. (Cowboy Alert!) I don't think you'll feel any movement with the weight of the car on the wheel, get it in the air and try, becareful though if just using a jack. bolarbag
Thread Hijack, Nic!!!Check your pm's, but also see that pic you posted - the diff mounts in the middle of the subframe, what are they called? How much are they and how easy are they to replace?
