ADL Mark
Has anybody had any experience of a Tax Refund Service? I'm a member of the union Unison and they have teamed up with a company called TaxRefundCo. who offer a service where they check if you have overpaid income tax at all and then get the money back for you. They charge 40% comission if they get you money back but nothing if you are not owed anything. Now, 40% seems like an awful lot, but I wouldn't know how to go about it myself for 'free'. Is that even possible? Or should I just try my luck with this company? I'm very tempted as they say that a lot of people are owed money and don't realise and also I was off work sick for many months and not getting paid and think that I am owed some tax back.. Any advice?
ivan
I've always spoken to my tax office direct and have always had any problems/refunds etc sorted very quickly.
tooquicktostop
40% It would be worth calling your tax office to check, otherwise you would be charged the higher rate of tax (40%) on anything you are owned by this company What makes you think you have over paid, I hear this all the time from my employees, its very rare they are owned money however
Jamesy W
I done this last year, got a slip with one of my payslips. Turned out that I was owed just over £20. I done the application online, and to be honest I never bothered my @rse even cashing the cheque in. As said above you should contact inland revenue and query them 1st. Although you have nothing to lose either way.
ADL Mark
Somehow I just didn't think it would be as easy as calling them, makes a nice change though. I'll give my local tax office a call and see what they say. Thanks guys!
dangerous brain
If you've ever been in the services and placed travel claims you would be shocked at how much tax back you can claim. For instance when I was in the rate of mileage was about 12p to the mile. The average business mileage was about 40p to the mile. You can claim the difference between the two as tax refund. Theres loads of bits and bobs like that which the tax office if you call them are obliged to tell you. They are however not obliged to tell you unless you ask. A mate of mine had a phone call from his sister in law that worked at the tax office suggesting he ask the tax office about money owed. He got £2000 odd back. They knew they owed him it the bar stewards. As for these companies they are no different to the ones that will assist you to get more from your endowements, get your bank charges back, helping with debt abolishment, etc etc using widely available standard letters.
