carl0s
I keep going on autotrader and searching for "v8" and "v12" (any make/model..), and you can pick up an LS400 (1UZ) for £800 or so! Also saw a 5.3L V12 Jaguar XJR-S for a few grand..
cowboy bebop
The key is to keep away from the distributor type. They're not so conducinve to performance. The coil on plug models is where it's at. Eric
cowboy bebop
Hi guys, Here's a quick update. We made a set of braces for the 2uz motor to keep the main caps tight under high rpm. A little extra insureance can go a long way.

Missile
Amazing bit of engine work there. Its great to see a step by step thread with great pic's. You really have a lot of confidence in the work done to not need to run it to check. Must be a sign of a very successful builder.

UltraFlynn
I suspect that this much care and attention doesn't even go into a new motor.

Alex
Hi guys, Here's a quick update. We made a set of braces for the 2uz motor to keep the main caps tight under high rpm. A little extra insureance can go a long way. What's the material there? As said it's a Cast Iron block so to stiffen that up the metal must be pretty robust. Does it go under the caps or stop before them on each side? It looks like it stops so I guess the main bracing is longditudinal... I take it longer bolts are in use
cowboy bebop
Hi Alex, Ed's an NA application so we can use a 1018 steel. There's not a whole lot of stress on the manis normally, but a little insurance under high rpm can't hurt. Fast forward to a TT application, and we have to switch to a much more stiff 17-4 staineless. It has a yield strength of 110,000psi so it's going to resist any sort of flex. The braces simple affix to the top of the mains and longer bolts used. This with our upcoming billet 4 bolt splayed mains will result in a very stable bottom end. Thanks! Ark
[snip] Intake manifold before bead blasting, still raw finish. [snip] What does that involve (apart from the obvious)? Is it for polishing? To smooth the welds? Looking good
Digsy
I'm intrigued by the colour of those main bearing caps. Are they the same parts in the "before" and "after" pics?
