MarkR
Can't wait for this heard good things, great to see a return to 20 years ago when the best stuff was written, 20 years ago MoP is my favourite album and song of all time I saw Metallica in Dublin in 2006 when they had the 20 year anniversary of MOP and they played the entire album from start to finish... oh baby!!!! That must've been cool. Tell me, how did they cope with Cliff's bass solo on Orion.
spidermonkey
i have seen them live a few times but i have never heard them play Orion (well not with Jason)
MarkR
Orion was the best track they played all day. The sun was setting and the weather was hotter than Satans ball bag. They had a screen behind them with clouds passing by at warp speed in colours that matched the sky! When they first started playing the crowd went ape and they didn't dissappoint!! You know Cliff would've done it better but as much as I hate to say it, Robert Trujillo is pretty amazing! Here is the lineup from the day: Creeping Death Fuel Wherever I May Roam The God That Failed Kirk Solo1 The Unforgiven Battery Master Of Puppets The Thing That Should Not Be Kirk Solo2 Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Disposable Heroes Leper Messiah Orion Damage, Inc. Sad But True Nothing Else Matters One Enter Sandman Whiskey in the Jar Seek and Destroy I said DAMMMMMN............

Metallikev
Bring back Flemming Rasmussen. Agreed!, MoP was a v v good album!, Just wonder how things would have gone if Cliff Burton was still around
spidermonkey
How about Robert Trujillo? haven't been to see them since he joined that's a mighty fine line up you saw by the way (Leper messiah live is fantastic )
Mike
I loved that bit in Some Kind of Monster where Dave and Lars are having that chat about him leaving Metallica.... how could you be in a room with Lars and not want to continually punch him? RedM
Back to Orion: I've just been watching some Youtube footage and I note that Hetfield didn't do the 2nd solo. He used to and is IIRC also credited with it in the MoP notes. When they did it live did they sit down on the drum riser like the old days? MarkR
Nope, they were standing, Hetfield in the middle, and one on either side of the stage all spread out - Bearing in mind I was in a 3-pints-of-red-wine haze at this point... so the details are a little fuzzy. The beer was warm so switched to wine... RMMID7jv6lA
Animal
Meh, I might download the new album, but I lost all interest after ...and justice. The black album had some good heavy riffs, but could have been any band and after that they were just dull. Personally, I don't see how they can go back to their old style of playing as Lars simply isn't the drummer he used to be, he's barely been able to play half of their old stuff for a long time - a shame really as the stuff he was doing on ...and justice was brilliant. Havard
Hmm!! Everyone has a different opinion on Metallica but mine is that their best stuff was in the middle and the Black Album was one of the best. Songs like "The god that failed" and "My friend of misery" were terrific. Also "Nothing Else Matters" has to be one of the best songs ever. Load is also a great album but Re-load was a bit disappointing. Depressingly enough it's my funeral song..... I still like some of the earlier stuff but after listening to St Anger I felt that Metallica had had their day.........I hope I'm wrong..!! H. martin1982
Saw them @ Download 06 when they playes MOP in full. Orioin was amazing, full version with james, rob and kirk stood on a platform above Lars, amazing! Their show @ Wembley last year was amazing, just to see the bands reaction to the crowds singing at the end of "Memory Remains" I think St.Anger would have been an amzaing breakthrough album for an up and coming band, but not for Metallica's return to the studio... I've heard Death Magnetic is supposed to bridge the gap between Justice and Black and I really hope it does.
MarkR
Nothing Else Matters was my first dance at my wedding Doing it in style! I found the show at Wembley last year a little dissappointing after download 06. The sound quality IMO was cr@p. They still rocked though! James
I hope it's good. I have a lot of time for Metallica. They are my favourite band. Especially up until '88! I find that funny, because that is when I was born They taught me how to play guitar. Used to just sit in my room and play all through KEA, RTL, MOP, AJFA and Binge & Purge Seattle over and over, making sure I had it nailed. Certainly helped me get technique down to begin with! Especially Nothing Else Matters, what a song. I remember Iron Maiden lost the plot big time, and then Bruce came back with Brave New World. Talk about getting back on track ! Hopefully Metallica will make a similar come back.
