Renault Megane R26R

This looks to be an extremely quick car.

Around the 'Ring it lapped 23 seconds quicker than the Astra VXR Nurburgring Edition and faster than a modern M5!! It's the fastest FWD production car ever to lap the green hell. I believe they're all already sold out.

I think the Ford Focus RS has been blown completely out of the water ;)

There is a rumour that Porsche will release a hot hatch soon as well. I think that will be interesting if it ever happens.

Nice face, nice performance, nice idea... still a shame about the ass.

Nice to see proper options on a factory car though, ti exhaust... yes please, roll cage... why not... different back end... not yet.

The only problem is it's the end of life swan song, you spend all that cash and then they will bring out a better one.

A valid point although I'm tempted to say at just over £22k it's a bit of a steal...

I agree about the rear though - I just can't bring myself to like it.

not really! mines been reliable! and for a 1.6 16v it beats most things in its class! good value for money i think! everythings electric ! if you dont drive them stupidly they will last without any major problems!

You have been very lucky!

2 of my friends had them,one a 2.0l8v and one a 2.0l16v.

The 8v had a gear box let go,an engine blow ,an earthing fault which caused no end of chaos.

The 16v had a driveshaft snap and a snapped cam. Also the headgasket went which caused the head to warp big time!

Both friends said they would never have one in a million years.

Wait a min, are renaults reliable now? They were always renouned for having the worst electrical problems of any car. My dad had 2 and although the only issue he had was the coilpacks breaking.... every month.... eventually all the lights lit up like a christmas tree. The car ran fine mechanically but he had no speedo. Car was only 4 years old.

Well, although my first car was a Clio that never skipped a beat, i also owned a Megane Coupe for a while and had no end of problems with it, the electrics kept blowing the bulbs for the speedo's and the digital mileometer kept shorting (Even Renault couldn't figure out why but that's no real surprise),

the headgasket blew twice because the engines run under high pressure so i was told by a renault mechanic, and if you drive them with too much vigour the engines just pop (Although i don't know if the same applies to newer models mine was a '98)

Also, the manifold cracked which was apparently quite common on the 1.6 8v engines whether it was the coupe or standard megane as they used the same lump.

Because of this, and because i know i can't resist driving with a bit of gusto when the mood takes me, i think i'd steer clear of the renaults given how fragile they've been in the past although they are nice to drive.

Am I missing something here, the Escort Cossie beats that and it's as old as a Supra!

I think I may have missed your point :D, there are many 4wd Turbo charged cars from the depths of history that will "beat" this car.

And I would use the word beats in it's vaugest sense, very similar bhp, torque & 0-60 times as stock *waits for the old "yeah but have you seen what a modified Cossie can do" retort*.
