Induction
Hi Since I've had my Eibach springs fitted I've noticed that the front tyres catch the top middle part of the arches under heavy cornering or when catching a mid-bend bump. Also, I've just had two of the new Goodyear Eagle F1's fitted to the rear and have found that the back end now seems to over-compensate on initial turn-in into fairly fast corners. A friend of mine has suggested that the standard shocks are not up to the job and need replacing. After a bit of reasearch, KYB AGX shocks seem to be the perfect partner for Eibach springs, but, they don't seem available in the UK! Anyone got any ideas on the quickest and cheapest method of getting some from the US? Has anyone here sourced parts from the US and had any problems, etc? Thanks for any help. Hmmmm....this is sounding very familiar. UK or j-spec car and how many miles on the clock before we start?
Induction
Gavin It's UK spec with about 80k. Jules
Syed Shah
At 80k the shocks may well need replacing, I think its fairly common for them to go after 60k onwards.
Alex
KYB shocks are very good. They have 4 levels of damping adjustment, and I agree they do appear to be a good match...not seen a bad review. But as for getting them here...they maybe called something else. Otherwise getting stuff shipped from the states can actually be cheaper than buying it here anyway. As for getting it from the states...its less hassle than it sounds, well usually.
Branners
Pete Betts has the US KYBs on his car, top adjustable I believe. But defo not available in the UK. Find a nice US supplier and buy a bunch, Im sure others would be interested. I seem to remember PB paid about the same for his shocks new as most pay for Bilsteins second hand. It does seem that the Eibach springs are somewhat variable and are heavily reliant on the right shocks. Deano has Eibachs with race spec Bilsteins and even on their top adjustment his car still sat lower than my car on Eibachs and normal Blisteins. I know Justin F had problems with his Eibachs and I found my import light on the back end under heavy braking which nobody else seems to have found. I now have what I believe are TRD springs on my UK spec and they behave very nicely indeedy. JB
Induction
Thanks for all the info guys. JB, interesting to hear that you've experienced the back end getting a bit light under heavy braking - I've had exactly the same thing since the new Goodyears were fitted, but not whilst the old ones were on. With my old Goodyears, I did find that the back end would seem to give a little twitch if it hit a mid-bend bump but with the new ones this has gone. I suppose Eibach springs with standard shocks are a bit of no-no anyway, so I'll have to start the search for a good supplier in the US and get some AGX's sent across. By the way, if I fit uprated shocks would I get rid of the front tyres snagging the inside of the arches as I mentioned earlier? I've been told that this is happening because the standard shocks are not capable of handling the sharp increase in load and don't have progressive damping, not sure if there's any truth in that or not.
