Ark
OK, this is an odd one: my car seems to have broken into parallel mode. No alarm lights, no smoke, nothing untoward. Basically its getting really slow spool and low boost until 4000rpm, then makes full boost as normal. Apart from feeling really flat, its also making a lot more exhaust noise - really boomy. I've checked for the obvious like split pipes and popped hoses. I've never been in a parallel mode Supra, but that's what this feels like. SO, does anyone know of a failure like this before? Does it sound feasible? Cheers.

You certainly don't and have been listening to the wrong people;) anyway it does sound like a VSV problem, by what you describe it sound like the EGCV and IACV are being held open. Ark
I guess the actuators are spring operated? Might the springs have failed, causing this? Can they be checked by actuating by hand, under the assumption that they should close again by themselves? What if only one of those valves was open (probably the EGCV, because of the exhaust noise)? I'll have a tinker later and see what I can see.
Ark
I put it in TTC mode using the vac-pipe bypass method and get the same exhaust noise and the same peak boost, but obviously the spool is smoother and earlier. Once I turned the car off, the actuators were both being held open, which is to be expected I guess. I think it is starting to look like a VSV fault - can they fail so they open the actuator early/immediately?
Ark
For anyone who might be interested, it turns out the wastegate had come unattached from the actuator, leaving it permanently open - hence no boost until high revs.
